On the experience of Music

I listened to “The Trees” a few mins ago. I saw a couple folks talking about it and decided to check it out. Added the collection. It was very Max Richter, but didn’t have the same punch as “On the Nature of Daylight” or “No Time for Caution” (Hans Zimmer).

It got me wondering if the emotion we connect to music is somewhat related to the state of mind we’re in when we hear it. For me, On the Nature of Daylight invokes feels of grief and loss, and of how beautifully ephemeral our lives are. I attribute that somewhat to the ways it’s used in other media, like Arrival. Then “No Time for Caution” is all about lost time, the building tension, reveal, and stresses of Interstellar and Miller’s planet. Then there’s all of Hamilton…😂

Can beautiful pieces be corrupted by the media that leverages them? Do they ever transcend the media? I think, maybe?…it seems like, for me, Daylight is evolving into more than a song about grief/sorrow/loss as i get older. The feels of ephemerality is definitely a new for me. Maybe I need to rewatch “The Notebook” to start my journey with “The Trees”.

Assassin snails

I had a very large pest snail problem a few years ago. Like pulling out 100+ per week by hand to keep numbers down. I bought 4 assassin snails and reduced the amount of food i’d provide. The pest snail population plummeted over the course of 6 months.

I haven’t seen a pest snail in almost 2 years. But i occasionally see new assassin snails. I think i’m at maybe 10 now. I’m wondering what they’re eating now that the snails are gone. I have a thriving shrimp population and a dozen tetra and loaches.

I assumed the assassin snails would starve, but apparently life finds a way?
