Is my shy cat’s “bathroom affection” normal? 😂

Is my shy cat’s “bathroom affection” normal? 😂

I’m curious if anyone else with a shy/timid cat has experienced this.
I got my cat about two years ago, and I knew from the beginning that she was extremely timid. It took a couple of months just for her to really warm up to me and become comfortable with regular petting. Even now, she can still be hesitant about approaching me, although she’s progressively become more affectionate over time.
But there’s one situation that completely confuses me: when I use the bathroom in the morning.
For some reason, the second I’m sitting on the toilet, she turns into a completely different cat. 😂 She’ll run up to me, start purring, circle around my legs, rub all over me, and act like she practically wants to climb into my lap. This is WAY more affectionate than she normally is with me.
What makes it even stranger is that it seems to specifically be when I’m sitting in that position. At other times, she’s still cautious about approaching me or getting that close.
Is there some reason a timid cat might feel safer or more comfortable approaching their owner while they’re sitting on the toilet? Does being seated/less mobile make me seem less intimidating to her? Or has she just decided that bathroom time is our designated bonding session? 😂
I’m not concerned about it—I actually think it’s really cute. I’m just genuinely curious about the psychology behind it and whether anyone else’s shy cat does this.
