Chaos vector with no regrets

What, you wanted to sleep in past 530 this morning? What do you mean I can’t eat that weird thing that will kill me? I can too catch the squirrel while you pick up my poop…some days are just chaotic. But then come the puppy snuggles…

Her only regret is getting caught

Ate two tampons, one condom, and a container 🫙 f lentils while dad’s back was turned. It’s all safely out. 10/10 do it again. Her only regret is getting caught.

Our girl tested positive for heart worms today

UPDATE: Our 4-year old dal tested positive for heart worms at her annual visit today. We adhere to a strict preventative medication schedule (heart guard for heart worms bravecto for fleas/ticks), treat the yard regularly with pet friendly treatments, etc. we’re waiting for confirmation of the results right now but of course spinning with worry. She developed a cough last night and already had her annual scheduled for today. The vet didn’t hear a murmur, so that is good news. Has anyone dealt with this? She’s on very low activity/semi bed rest orders until we know for sure. This is a real test for her since she’s a daily runner. We’ve stocked up on food puzzles and things but she’s super bummed not to be allowed to play bitey face with her brothers or run. Puppy tax included.

We have an update on our sweet girl. She is confirmed positive. Our vet is filing a claim with the manufacturer of heart guard. And we are so fortunate to have been able to insure our girl. We’ll begin doxy tonight. After a month, she’ll have a break and then a series of injections. Since she’s such an active girl, we’ll hospitalize for a week. She’ll have a private yard and caregiver during this time and we’ll be able to visit daily. We’re really dreading putting her thought this part. She loves her vet, and we hate that this is going to be painful and scary for her. Our vet has been amazing and is only billing us at cost while we wait for the heart guard folks and insurance to sort everything out. We’re also doing extra radiographs to stage the disease and rule out blasto. We’re worried. And we know it’s a long road, but as long as she has a good quality of life, we’ll do everything to help her maintain it. We really want to thank everyone for sharing their experiences, suggestions, and warm thoughts/prayers. I can’t tell you how much this means to our family. This girl is the light of our home and my soul girl. We have a special needs kiddo and our girl has a special bond with her. Whoever said that dals are heaven sent wasn’t wrong. We’ll keep the thread updated in case it’s useful for other pet parents and to share what’s happening. We’d also appreciate any suggestions while we navigate everything. And for those of you who’ve lost your pups, please feel free to share.

Gotcha Day!

One year ago, we brought this girl home, covered in fleas, rashes, and dirt from a kill shelter in central Texas. She’d been in the shelter a little more than a week after being dumped on July 4 during the historic storms that devastated our community. She was great with humans, but reactive with almost every other living thing. She’s still terrified of storms. But, now she has a best friend. Her rashes are nearly gone. And we walk or run almost daily at the park. It’s still hard when we see other dogs but she no longer goes bonkers. She loves to ride in the car.
