(Brutal) Male rape victims should not be forced to suffer financial consequences for crimes committed against them (originally posted in the r/Feminism sub to see reactions, got automatically filtered and removed).
(Please read till the end) I think this is a serious men's rights issue that deserves much more attention.
If a teenage boy is sexually assaulted by a woman and a child is conceived as a direct result, I find it deeply disturbing that he can potentially end up with a child-support obligation, this is literally the law.
He didn't consent to sex. He didn't choose to become a parent. He didn't choose the pregnancy. He was the victim ot a crime.
I completely recognize that the child born is innocent and deserves financial support. But I don't think the solution should be making the victim financially responsible for consequences that were imposed on him through sexual violence.
In cases like this, l think the state should provide financial protection so that the victim isn't forced to carry the economic consequences of the assault.
This isn't about punishing child born or blaming women. It's about a basic principle:
A victim shouldn't be made to bear the consequences of a crime committed against them.
Also, in my country, Canada, abortion is legal, which removes a common counter-argument in these discussions, since termination of pregnancy is an available option for girls victim of that terrible disgusting crime.
I wanted to hear thoughts from the feminist sub on that subject, since I heard feminists recognize both male and female injustices in society.
Edit: I just realized that the state money is also mostly men’s money, so I think we should force the rapist to send the money to the victim even if it’s hard for her after and she should also in all case go to prison in my opinion so the child born should be in a custody that the victim chooses and the money to make the child live would be paid by the rapist directly.
