Looking to get back into RV lifestyle. Looking to purchase a 2016 Forest River Georgetown 335DS. Please tell me why I SHOULDN’T Buy it.

Wife and I previously owned a Thor Chateau 31W motor home but we sold it after we moved to North Carolina from Colorado.

We purchased the Chateau in 2018 and we sold it 2022, basically for what we paid for it. However, after watching YouTube videos and reminiscing we realize we miss the RV lifestyle and we are looking to purchase a new to us motorhome.

Recently found a fairly immaculate Forest River Georgetown 335DS for a great price.

However, I want to know if anyone has any experience with this type of coach and if we should NOT buy it please let us know.

Found a Denon DCM 340 CD changer and this KLH Bassbite II powered subwoofer at Goodwill for $11.00

I found both items at Goodwill, I paid $2.50 for the Subwoofer and $8.00 for the Denon DCM-340.

The KLH sub is really low powered and I actually thought it wasn’t working when I tried to test it last night. It really is barely more than a step above a sub you would use with computer speakers, but it is solidly built and it would be good to provide a little bass for bookshelf speakers that don’t have any bass at all.

The DCM 340 is a CD changer I would have passed on originally because it does not have any digital outs so you have to rely on the internal DAC. However, I got it home and tested it I was amazed.

I compared it to a Sony DVD player I was using courtesy of two identical Norah Jones CDs that I have at home. The Sony and the Denon were hooked up to two different inputs on a vintage Onkyo receiver and they were perfectly synched so I could switch easily between both sources.

The Denon was warm and inviting and the midrange was forward in a very pleasant way. The Sony sounded good, and the highs were more detailed. But it sounded harsh and metallic in comparison to the Denon the DCM-340 had a vinyl like warmness to the music.

I cannot believe how good this CD changer sounds. My first CD changer was a Denon and I purchased it in 94. I remembered how I eventually settled on it after going back and forth between Best Buy, Circuit City, and other stores trying to find the best sounding CD player. Phillips and the Denon sounded the best, but to me, the Denon sounded better by a wide margin. However, once I got it home I always played it using my receiver’s DAC.

The first receiver was an entry level Yamaha and I eventually upgraded to a mid level Denon receiver. However, when iPod and music streaming became a thing and my wife kept pushing the wrong button on the Denon receiver and I had to trouble shoot it countless times I eventually a cheap decent sounding Sony AV receiver that wouldn’t confuse her.

I eventually gave both away because I hated the thought of them sitting unused in boxes.

The bad thing is I bought the DCM 340 for my son. I am getting him into audio and I have cobbled together a really good sounding system from various components found at thrift stores. I am going to see if he is willing to swap out the Denon for my Sony DVD changer that has a remote control!

I have owned at least one receiver for over four decades. I presently have four A/V receivers (two Yamahas and two Onkyos)) and one stereo receiver (Yamaha).

However, ever since I bought my first out of pocket A/V receiver in 1994 I have not used the AM/FM tuner.

Just wondering if anyone out there actually uses their AM/FM tuners. I haven’t even bothered to connect the antennas.

So ecstatic, lately I haven’t been finding anything of any worth. Then I found all these great jazz CDs and some other goodies.

The highlights for me are the George Howard and the Gerald Albright. Especially because I owned some of these George Howard CDs years ago. And they sound soooo good, really excellent quality recordings.

Just realized the title should have been, “I don’t think early 80s CD’s sound good.”

Since I got back into CDs January of 2026 I have noticed how CDs that were manufactured in the early 80s don’t sound very good to me.

To me, the songs lack the detail and overall sound quality of CDs that were manufactured later.

For example, I have a Hall and Oates Greatest Hits CD from the early eighties that I struggle to listen to because the sound quality is so bad, I would rather stream.

Also, I think this is before the “loudness wars”, so I don’t think that’s the issue.
