My first pen show: London Pen Show - Autumn 2026

Hi everyone,

I’m excited to say I’ll be attending my very first pen show this October: the London Pen Show (Autumn). I got the early bird ticket. I am still quite new to fountain pens, and this will be my first time actually going to a show like this.

I’d really appreciate any tips or advice from people who’ve been before: anything from what to expect, budgeting, must-see tables, or things you wish you had known before your first pen show.

Thanks in advance!

NPD: Leonardo x Stilo&Stile Poliedrica Desert Night

Excited to share my husband’s gift: my new fountain pen, the Leonardo x Stilo&Stile Poliedrica “Desert Night”. The color palette instantly made me think of the Atacama Desert in northern Chile: "warm browns, amber reflections, and shifting light across faceted surfaces, like a desert at dusk". The Atacama Desert is somewhere I hope to visit someday, especially because it’s one of the best places on Earth to see the Milky Way thanks to its incredibly low light pollution, dry air, and high altitude. My Poliedrica is currently inked with Dominant Industry’s Unknown Land, which turned out to be a perfect match for the pen’s warm, earthy tones. Honestly, my photos don’t do this pen justice. In person, it’s an absolute masterpiece.

New ink day + Dominant Industry haul

New ink: Unknown Land, a stamp for my ink journal, and an ink muddler/glass dip pen. Didn’t have the time to do the swatches 🥲

Hi everyone, I’d really appreciate some honest feedback on my handwriting. Here’s my sample (it’s a letter I just finished writing to a friend). A bit of context: I tend to write in very small letters, and English isn’t my native language, so I never properly learned cursive connections between letters. I feel like this shows in my writing, especially in how inconsistent it looks overall. If you have any critiques (legibility, spacing, consistency, style, etc.) or suggestions for improvement, I’d love to hear them. Thank you!

I wanted to thank this lovely community for helping me choose my first gold nib pen. I ended up going with a Pilot Custom 742, and honestly… I’m in love with it.

The nib glides across the page so smoothly it almost feels luxurious, the balance in hand is perfect, and the ink flow has been consistently excellent. It’s not just a writing tool for me: it really does make everyday writing feel like a small, quiet luxury.

I do feel a bit silly though: when I started journaling, I told myself I wouldn’t get into fountain pens and inks because it’s such an expensive hobby. Fast forward a year… I now have the 742, and two limited edition pens on the way as well. So much for restraint 😅

Can’t wait to share my new fountain pens with you all when they arrive!

Hi everyone,

I’m very new to calligraphy and would like to learn Copperplate script. I’ve picked up a few nibs (Leonardt EF Principal, Gillott 404, and Gillott 303), but I’m a bit confused about which straight nib holder I should get that’s compatible with them.

I’ve been looking into Tachikawa, Kakimori, and Tom’s Studio holders, but there are so many options that I’m finding it hard to choose.

Could anyone recommend a good holder for a beginner using these nibs?

P.S. If you’re wondering why I’m looking for a straight nib holder specifically, it is because that’s the one recommended by Dao Huy Hoang, although he doesn’t mention any specific brands.
