How do y'all feel about on-field warmups?

I've played in bands and groups that did and didn't have an on-field warmup.

I've taught bands and groups that did and didn't have an on-field warmup.

Personally, I prefer it: there can be a decent gap between the warmup lot and the field, especially in some venues. Plus, nerves can start to sneak up as they stand around, maybe watching the band before perform.

I like a quick 60 second thing, something that the kids are comfortable with that resets their hands and minds. Nothing too challenging, but more than just 8s.

I'm thinking of writing one that includes a front ensemble part. Any sort of cheat I can utilize to help the kids get a feel for the gap and echo they'll hear between the ensembles, while also warming up and relaxing them.

What are y'all's thoughts?

Morning y'all,

Have a quick question regarding the DCI show in San Antonio. I've been a couple of times as a paid spectator before, but this visit will be a little bit different:

I'm a perc tech for a local high school that doesn't have a ton of drum corps exposure. Some of them are into it, but not a ton. I remember growing up that the only DCI I ever saw was when a corps occasionally stayed at a local HS and I got to watch them rehearse.

I want to bring the kids out to see the lot warmups. I've done it before, but, again, as a paid spectator. Unfortunately, tickets are likely too expensive for the kids.

  1. Are the parking lots open to watch? Or do you need a ticket to get in?

  2. What time would the first corps start warming up?

Any information you can help provide would be awesome. Thanks!
