Anyone else feel like their layoff woke them up?

TL;DR: I've been laid of twice from corporate jobs and was kind of horrified to realize how much of your life you can lose sitting behind a desk doing pointless busy-work and want to hear from people who have felt the same and made a major life change as a result.

I was laid off in 2020 from a company I had been working for since I was still in grad school in 2013. I was building a career with this company and had never really thought about leaving and I went through a lot mentally.

It was a shock at first and a lot of hard work trying to help people who genuinely needed help as a lot of us were going to be leaving within a few weeks. Once I was gone though... it felt like I woke up from this monotonous dream that was on repeat - wake up, sit in traffic, attend pointless status calls, occasionally fly across the country for meetings that could have been handled over IM. I felt a bit horrified that I'd spent so much of my life sitting behind a desk.

I've owned a business since then (long story but ultimately had to let it go) and worked for another major corporation but remotely. It was definitely more satisfying to be home more often with my daughter and the pointless daily calls are easier to deal with when I'm doing it more on my terms; like walking on the treadmill while listening or multitasking but working on something that matters to me.

Now that I've been laid off from that too, I just kinda don't want to go back. I talked with some family members and found out that one of my more distant relatives used to work for McDonnell Douglas back in the day and got laid off when they merged with Boeing. Rather than going back to a corporate desk job they got a job working in the McDonnell/Boeing manufacturing facilities and were happier and more secure than ever. I've actually read a lot about people starting small businesses from home or taking on warehouse or factory jobs (where those still exist) and being much happier.

Just wondering if anyone out there experienced an awakening like this and made a major life change and how that worked out?

How worried should I be about refeeding after a 30 day fast?

I have fasted before for 7-10 days multiple times. Those are not really even difficult for me anymore but my wife is worried about refeeding after my current 30 day fast. How worried do I need to be?

When I fasted before it was mainly a challenge and for the mental clarity I get. Over the past few years I've really ballooned up well over 300lbs (I'm a 6'2 man so big but not debilitating) and wanted to jump start some real weight loss. I've consulted my doctor and its been going fine, I'm about 2/3 through it and feeling good.

I have NEVER done anything special to refeed. I just eat a normal meal and have never had any problems - not even an upset stomach.

Seems like a lot of people online put a ton of care and work into planning on how to refeed after 3 days. I broke my last 10 day fast with a pretzel pizza from little caesars that my wife and daughter wanted. Am I some kind of mutant or is refeeding syndrome just way overblown? Or should I be worried after 30 days?

Downgraded from Generalist Expert to Generalist?

Just accepted an offer late last week for Generalist Expert. Many of you will know that there is barely any work available relative to the massive number of new people unless you just sit at the computer and refresh all day. Background check was finally showing Passed as of today - last onboarding thing still in process - and I didn't notice anything until just a moment ago when I looked at the earnings page. There are now two lines: one for Generalist Expert earnings and one for Generalist earnings. I also checked and my contract now says Generalist but the pay is the same, presumably because there is a signed contract.

I did notice the one of the campaigns I had is also gone now but I literally never saw work appear in that one so I stopped looking at it. Maybe it was only there for the training quiz?

So. What gives? Anyone seen this happen before? Should I be concerned? I only grabbed about 4 hours worth of work this week as there just wasn't much out there and I quickly got frustrated hitting refresh for hours at a time and worked other contracts instead.
