Can Carti still do his wlr V2 voice?

INTRO : It's widely debated on whether or not he's still capable of that raspy vamp voice, many fans claim he can still deliver by comparing it to his newer "Baby voice" introdouced in 2017, later reprodouced in early (2024–2025) After spending years integrating a deep, aggressive voice into his aesthetic and style, he began switching it up blending elements of his older high pitched delivery back into newer tracks and features like "Timeless", but for the sake of comparison both baby voices will be described.

(2017 CASH CARTI BABY VOICE) : his most natural sound, due to being younger then, he had less trapper years being so young so his voice wasnt neccesarily tainted by it, he delievered more soft-spoken and melodic voices utilizing this tone.

(2024 BABY VOICE) : The high pitch was a hyper-exaggerated. Instead of keeping it a singular tone/voice he created 3, 2 of them being variants.

(Variant #1), "incredibly polished and melodic" It is also widely referred to by fans on TikTok and many Redditers as the "AI Voice" or "Lawson Voice" ( Carti's co- writer, ex : Timeless & Rather Lie confirmed to contain obvious usage of ai )

(Variant #2) Breathless Voice" Heard during specific transitions maybe adlibs/ vocal overlays , Carti drops his volume but spikes the pitch, a really airy, gasping, and vulnerable kinda zesty voice, like when he says "seeyuh" but more like "seeyuhhhh" that out of breathe kind of sound.

FYI - The deep voice utilized on timeless would be mentioned in the variamts but thats its own seperate voice and tone so its outside of discussion

How is it identified? Simple, by hearing harsh, distorted "S" sounds and background noise caused by poor engineering and/ or software for such.

(2025/2026 BABY VOICE) : 2 examples, Withdrawls and XTC, aka Eden bby & Pink diamonds. In this case Withdrawls would be the best representation and latest example of the evolution of Carti's baby voice, after all those stoner years and time utilizing deeper raspier voices, now as we know Carti is 29 years, 30 next month, hes lost his youth alongside youthful natural cash carti baby voice, and the only way to bring it back is by force.

Will we ever get that old cash carti sound back? : most likely not, due to years of scream-raging at his shows, drastic changes in aesthetic, loss of that youthful relaxed sound which now has to be forced, as much as he could try it wont ever sound like before, you cant force a relaxed voice, hes got too much strain on his vocal chords for that after all these years, keep in mind cash carti will be a decade ago in just a few more years, some things you really just cant bring back!

The “AI Carti song” ( WHAT U NEED) people are disappointed to find out is AI isn’t actually entirely made by AI. There’s a real person behind the song, and many hours of work go into the process.

I’ve noticed a lot of TikTok comments under songs from artists like , TWXN, LL Clawz, 507KAZ, void, BABY BOI, etc and others where people hear that a song uses AI and immediately become disappointed because they assume the entire song was generated by AI.

But that isn’t really how this type of music is made.

There is an actual person behind these songs, and depending on the track, the process can involve hours of work.

TWXN has talked/shown aspects of this process, His music demonstrates the distinction between the original human performance and the actual AI voice conversion. The performance, delivery and musical ideas can come from the person making the song, with the model being applied after to change the vocal identity for fanmade purposes, no impersonation or copying intended by such works, they are more original than listeners tend to realize .

Baby Boi has also explained his process in detail. He records his own vocals first, then uses a voice model trained to recreate the target artist’s vocals. Before that model can even be used, the training data has to be collected from actual songs being put into a data set specifically for training. He has talked about using tools like Audacity and RX to clean vocals, training models through Applio and other applications meaning it is not a single program/application process, various are used in the process.

So the AI isn't necessarily writing and creating an entire song from nothing. An actual person is still performing the vocals, writing and handling the production and engineering, while the trained model is being used as a voice-conversion tool. (emphasis on tool, because people tend to make assumptions such as it being one short process entirely performed by ai when it isnt necesarily the biggest factor inside the process of this type of "ai music" itself)

There is a whole interconnected Carti fan-music scene around these creators, with artists collaborating on songs and projects, sharing techniques, voice models and working with each other as they develop and share trained models or instructions.

That's why calling these songs “AI music” can be incredibly misleading and discrediting to the efforts of the artists in this particular scene, real effort shouldnt go unnoticed, we can all seem to admit that the songs are great enough to compete with official carti songs, why not understand the process behind them as well? no need to be disappointed when these are the percentages from a rough estimate of the real person and ai workflow involved in these songs

Human work: ~80–90%
AI voice conversion/modeling: ~10–20%

You can absolutely debate whether AI voice models should be used, whether artists should consent to their voices being modeled, and whether listeners should be told when AI is involved. Those are valid conversations.

The root of misinformation stems from comments such as “this song is ai” or referring to it as "ai slop" when it isn't!

In a lot of these cases, it's more like:

Human performance trained voice model → voice conversion → editing → mixing → engineering → finished song (beats are not made by the ai, these are actually produced, found on youtube or self produced by the artist)

The AI is typically only one part of the process, not necessarily the entire creative process, due to misinformation spread by tiktok users labelling it "AI music/slop" when it should make more sense to call it "AIVCM = AI Voice Conversion Music (abreviated for convinience, lets try to label it this way rather than spreading misinformation)

But saying “this song is AI ” can make as if there was no human creativity or work involved at all, when in many cases the reality is more like a human-made song/performance + an AI voice-conversion tool + hours of editing and engineering using various applictions and sites.

A good prespective : I personally believe using ai for creative usages such as vocal conversion, lyric suggestions (with your own input), cover art concepts and similar usages should be perfectly fine and in fact one of the best ai usages out here nowadays and a real spotlight for creativity in modern artists, bringing voices back to life, bringing back vibes, giving you what your favorite artist couldnt, there are plenty of ways to view these usages but keep in mind that this real creativity wrongly labelled by misinformed TikTok users!

Examples :

(Found on a tiktok post under the song WHAT U NEED)

the uploader clearly has no idea how ai was intergrated into the production of the song due to misinformation

*For those interested in learning and attempting the full process it is reccomended to seek assistance via the aihub discord server or the official server of your vocal conversion application.*
