I’m considering a move from Dallas, TX to Seattle, WA for a full‑time Analyst role in state government. The offer is $130,000, and I currently make $120,000 in Dallas.

I’m also on an H‑1B, so job stability and long‑term security are extremely important to me — especially with the current market conditions and the uncertainty in the private sector. Since this is an FTE role (not contract), I’m hoping it’s more stable, but I’d love to hear from people who know the reality of government work in Washington.

For anyone who has worked in Washington state government or lived in Seattle:

• How secure are state government FTE roles, especially for someone on an H‑1B?
• Does anyone have experience with Washington state agencies sponsoring H‑1B transfers?
• What’s the work‑life balance like in state government roles?
• Is $130k enough to live comfortably in Seattle given the cost jump from Dallas?
• Any pros/cons I should know before making the move?

I am a Product Owner. I am not trying to rub in.

My project recently ended in March '26 and my consultant company decided to let me go in April '26 as they were unable to get another project for me.

After applying to more than 350 -600 jobs (both fte and contract roles), I ended up receiving two job offers (both contract). One with Amex and another with a major retail-healthcare - Walgreens

I need some good suggestions on which one to join.

-Both roles are similar. Product Analyst + Project Management

- One is located in Phoenix and another in Chicago. I have to move for both the roles.

- My future team in Amex is a proper Desi team. Team with Walgreens is an American team.

- Pay is similar. Although Chicago is a little more expensive.

- Project duration in both the places is 1- 2 years.

- I have most of my experience in retail domain.

- Both have middle layer big desi consultant companies in between.

Please help me with factors to tap into to decide this. Or help me choose.
