I’m not sure if this is an unpopular opinion, but I absolutely loved this new card. It was so interesting to see their relationship in those awkward phases and compare it to what it has become now. It honestly reminded me a lot of Caleb's tender moments, which I love.
I won't go too much into the card itself because what I really want to talk about is something I think a lot of people, especially those who criticize Caleb's MC by calling her childish or saying she only ever
"takes" from Caleb, completely miss.
MC genuinely and deeply loves Caleb.
She is every bit as devoted to him as he is to her.
She would do anything for him, even sacrifice herself if it meant protecting him. Caleb isn't just someone she loves, he is her everything. That's why I loved the final line of her love letter to him in this card:
”my story from the prologue to the ending, you've always been the person I care about the most.”
I don't know if this was intentional, but it almost feels meta. The story of this game is ultimately MC's story, so it almost sounds like no matter what happens, no matter how many paths she walks, every road eventually leads back to Caleb. It's not just this card either. Across so many of Caleb's cards, MC describes both Caleb and their love in such poetic and heartfelt ways. One of my favorite examples is Up Close, where she compares their love to the wind.
”In any world, the wind is still the wind. You can't see its shape or its edges, and yet you feel it all the same. And when it lifts your hair, no one wonders where it comes from or where it's going."
It really captures how natural and constant their love is for her. Their love is so special to me because it’s both incredibly complicated and incredibly simple at the same time. Across every world, there’s always some forbidden element that makes their love seem impossible. Yet despite all those obstacles, the love itself remains so pure and unwavering. It’s simply two people who, no matter the world or circumstances, choose each other again and again.
I think people who reduce Caleb’s MC to being childish or someone who only receives love from him either haven’t read many of his cards or are overlooking a huge part of their relationship. Yes Caleb loves spoiling MC, but that’s one of the main ways he expresses his love and people often ignore that MC loves spoiling Caleb just as much.
She pays attention to what makes him happy and goes out of her way to give him those things (his latest birthday card is one of the clearest examples of this). She doesn’t simply accept his love, she actively looks for ways to return it. This new card is another beautiful example. I see the love letter as something she wrote for the younger Caleb, the one who suffered believing she could never love him the way he loved her. By responding to his feelings years later, she’s giving the younger Caleb closure.
Their relationship is built on this mutual care. As much as Caleb indulges MC’s playful side, MC brings out Caleb’s own inner child. She gives him the freedom to laugh, be playful, and simply enjoy himself without the burdens he usually carries. Likewise, Caleb loves taking care of MC and the fact that she’s a capable hunter doesn’t mean she can’t enjoy being cared for by the person she loves. That’s why I find it frustrating when people claim MC only “takes” from Caleb or is simply spoiled by him. Their relationship is incredibly reciprocal. They may express their love in different ways, but they’re both constantly looking for ways to make the other person feel loved.
Sorry for the random rambling. After seeing so much hate toward Caleb's MC lately, I just really wish more people would try to understand her instead of reducing her to a few surface level things. If you actually read Caleb's story, it's obvious that her love for him runs just as deep as his love for her and that's one of the reasons I find their relationship so compelling.

I don’t even know if it’s allowed to be excited for Caleb’s main story anymore, even on this sub, but I can’t help it. It’s been over 520 days and I’ve missed the Colonel so much🥹

So all that meltdown over up seems pretty pointless now because the card is very clearly based on the truman show. the whole thing with the people and the city being artificial and that they need to travel to the edge to leave the world
I hope this will be a lesson to people to not judge things before the card is even out
Sorry lots of rambling incoming😅
When I first started watching the PV, I was so happy to see that we were finally getting Caleb piloting a plane. It has honestly been one of the things I wanted most for one of his cards. But when I reached this part of the video and saw that smile, I felt so much sadness because seeing him like that immediately made me think about how cruel the world has been to him.
Caleb is only 25, but life has already taken so much from him. His early childhood was robbed from him and so much of his earlier life has been marked by suffering, loss of control, and having to survive things no child should ever have to experience because of EVER. Then later on, he found someone he wanted to protect and even though his love and care for MC were his own choice, so much of his life still became centered around her safety and happiness.
That’s why his dream of becoming a pilot feels so important to me. It was something that truly belonged to him. Even though Caleb says he wanted to become a pilot for MC and grandma Josephine, we can see that his love for flying was something he had carried with him since childhood. He wanted to be in the sky because of the freedom it represented, the kind of freedom he never really had in his own life. That dream was his own and it mattered enough to him that he was willing to separate from MC and leave for Skyhaven to pursue it (we can all imagine how difficult that decision must have been for him).
Caleb worked so hard at the Aerospace Academy in Skyhaven. He almost died once, but even that did not make him give up. He kept pushing forward until he finally made it and started working at the DAA, but just when he finally reached the future he had fought so hard for, fate took it away from him. It almost feels like Caleb was destined to suffer. The bright future he had worked so hard for was stolen from him and he was dragged bac k into the same kind of suffering he had experienced as a kid.
That’s why this birthday PV hit me so hard. Seeing Caleb smile in such an innocent and boyish way while flying the T-93 (something he had dreamed about but thought wasn’t possible anymore) made the cruelty of his situation feel even more painful because this is where Caleb should be.
He should be flying freely in the sky inside the plane of his dreams as a DAA pilot, with the person he loves beside him. He should be allowed to simply exist as himself without trauma, danger, and suffering constantly following him. This version of Caleb feels like his purest self, the Caleb he could have been if the world had been kinder to him.
And what makes it even sadder is that in reality, almost everything in his life works against this happiness. I feel like choosing Caleb as a LI gives him the happy ending he deserves but in the main story, he still doesn’t have that. He’s still suffering, is in constant danger, and left on bad terms with the person he is going through all of this suffering for. So when I saw him smiling like that, I felt heartbroken for both Caleb the LI and Caleb in the main story.
BONUS: I really love how deeply Caleb’s MC loves her man and how clearly that love comes through in everything. I love that in so many of his cards, you can see how far she would go to give him anything and everything. She was willing to risk her life by going to the N109 Zone to get revenge for Caleb in the main story. She wanted to directly confront the fleet after learning what they did to him and she even put a chip inside herself just for the possibility of understanding Caleb more. Girl’s crazy about him haha
MC wants to protect Caleb from danger and also protect his happiness. Her love for him is so deep and she shows it through both big and small actions. I know a lot of people feel like MC can be a little spoiled with Caleb (and I do agree to a certain extent) but at the same time, she also spoils Caleb in her own way.
The fact that she remembered Caleb wanted to pilot a T-93 but never got the chance and then wanted to make that dream come true for him says so much about how she loves him.
In Spotlit Gaze, it’s really all about about MC wanting to find the things Caleb enjoys and wanting to make him happy. Caleb’s MC is not a MC who only receive love from the LI. From the very beginning she has always actively shown to him how much she cares for him. She respects him, cares about what he thinks and feels, and most importantly wants him to be happy.
That is why this PV feels so emotional to me becuase it also shows how deeply MC loves him by trying to give Caleb his dream bac k.
