Update from previous post

So I never got better and my body never adjusted to the mounjaro. In fact, last Wednesday, I developed excruciating upper abdominal pain.

For some perspective, I had my appendix removed in 2018 and it was no where near the pain level I was in last Wednesday.

I barely got out the words “call 911” to my husband.

Long story short, I have gallstones.

And because the metformin and mounjaro work on the liver and intestinal tract, my gallbladder is a ticking time bomb. My Endo was worried about even having me continue the mounjaro.

But we are because my BG is fantastic… but I’m meeting with a surgeon to schedule a cholecystectomy…

I just needed to post this because my original post was met with some of the same nonchalance that I was receiving from my PCP.

I knew something was wrong. I knew this all couldn’t be normal. But my PCP just chalked it up to GI side effects of a glp-1.

Moral of the story? Don’t settle on the obvious and common causes. Listen to your patients.

Thanks for coming to my TedTalk

Sincerely,
A very frustrated veterinary nurse who was invalidated and ignored by her human doctor.

Newly Diagnosed T2 struggling with mounjaro

Hey all!

I was diagnosed with T2 diabetes on May 22nd. A1C 12.5 and BG 320 at time of diagnosis.

Had recheck BW today and A1C is down to 8.7 and my morning BGs have been mid to low 100s.

I had already lost 30 lbs on my own with intuitive eating prior to diagnosis. And with mounjaro and daily strength training/ sessions on stair machine I have lost 20lbs since diagnosis.

But I’m struggling mentally with the food aversion, nauseous around a lot of types of food, and not feeling hungry.

Only thing I can really stomach are eggs, broccoli, and smoothies with extra protein/ creatine added.

Is anyone else struggling with these types of symptoms?

I also have chronic depression and anxiety and am on meds for that, but I just feel a lack of desire to do the things I used to enjoy.

I see my doctor on Wednesday and I plan on discussing this with her, but I was curious if anyone else has had these particular side effects.

I know that the glp 1 meds are supposed to help reduce food noise and decrease appetite, but I just feel like this is a little more extreme than that. I’m on 5mg once weekly right now. Started at the typical starting dose of 2.5mg
