Pasta cooking slowly despite water boiling quickly?

So, I feel like I have a weird one here: I just got an induction range, and it's great that I can put it on high and get a pot of water boiling in 3-4 minutes. So, I don't think power output is the problem. The problem is, then I need to turn it down so it doesn't boil over, unlike with my previous gas range, and it seems like pasta ends up coming out less cooked: I needed it in an extra 2-3 minutes to get it to the level of cooked that I expected. Has anyone else have this sort of experience while switching over, and if so, do you have suggestions about how to make it not happen?
