Backcountry Sizing Assistance
I’m likely overthinking it but figured I would get everyone’s advice. I waited 5 months for the Backcountry’s to arrive and thought I was either an 8.5 or 9. I measure a 10 on the bannock and have a longer second toe. After talking to customer service I decided to go with the 9 and curious to get opinions on if I selected correctly. These will mostly work for casual wear but I will also wear them hiking in mountainous terrain from time to time.
My feet are low volume/narrow and out of the box without the insole they felt very sloppy through the vamp. Once I added the insole it tightened things up. The laces pull the closure very close together so I ordered a kiltie to see what that would do. When I move my big toe up you can see where it hits the top of the boot which I’ve marked. When standing flat the big toe goes right up to or under the seem. I cannot feel the front with my toes. There is a lot more room in the moc toe then I am used to and typically wear cushioned dress socks from bombas which are mid to light weight.
One thing that throws me off is how long they are compared to a Clark’s desert boot. I understand it may not be apples to apples comparing an unlined desert boot to a boot like the Backcountry.
See below for sizes I wear in other shoes:
-Nike - 10.5
-Red Wing Moc - 8.5
-Clarks Desert boots/wallabee - 9
-Drakes Desert Boots - 9 UK
-Paraboot Barth (unlined boat shoe) - 8 UK
-On Cloud - 10.5
My current thoughts are potentially an 8.5 would work without the insole or be very close to too small with the insole. I likely can’t wear the 9 without the insole and will be more forgiving for thicker socks/swelling/hiking. I went ahead and ordered the 8.5 and will wear the 9s until they arrive. If I decide to stick with the 8.5 I’ll just sell the slightly worn 9s (hopefully close to retail).
Curious to get the groups input.
