Somewhere near the Pemberton Icefield, British Columbia

Planned an off-trail route to see the Pemberton Icefield not too far from Squamish, BC, Canada. Best hike I have ever been on in my life. Views were spectacular, campsites perfect and we didnt see another person the whole time. Best part was the Perseids meteor shower which peaked while we were out there.

Some photos from my first summer in Southwestern BC

Just moved to BC and have spent a chunk of my summer touring around the Sunshine Coast and Vancouver Island in my kayak with friends. It is such a beautiful place filled with life, and I cant wait to keep exploring!

I see your Sierra posts and I raise you the Coastal Range, BC

Maybe not the *best* place in the world to go backpacking, but I have done a fair amount of trekking in SA, Europe, Canada and the US and its definitely one of the best places I've had the pleasure to explore.

My photos are only from the few months ive been out here, hoping to discover many more routes in the coming years!

Question about post-wildfire conditions in Cathedral Provincial Park

Hi all,

I am hoping to spend a few nights in Cathedral Park late September/early October to explore the park and to see some beautiful yellow Larch trees. I see that most of the trails are reopened, and the shuttle is again running.

My question is, how much of the park has burned down? I am not worried about the trail conditions but instead my concern is that I am planning a trip to see Larch trees, but I will arrive to see a colorless burn scar. I have heard Manning has some great fall colors as well, but Cathedral looks so much more appealing to me.

Can anybody comment on the condition of the forests, and if it would still be worth going? I have checked trip reports, fire maps etc, but I cant really find info on the state of the forest.

Thanks!

Question about shoreline crab fishing

Hi all,

I am new to crabbing and had a question about buoys. If I am using a hand casted ring trap from shore, am i required to affix a float? If so, how can I stop this from tangling during the cast?

Thanks!

Crown land camping in coastal areas

Hi all,

I have recently moved to Vancouver area from Ontario and need help understanding the legality of crown land camping, particularly along the coast.

This is more of a paddling question but would still apply to hiking as well. Let me know if there is a better place to post.

I am using iHunter BC and BC Assessment.ca to identify crown land the best I can. For example, I am interested in doing some kayaking out of Earl's Cove, possibly camping on Nelson Island or surrounding shorelines. Is there any reason I cannot just pitch a tent on an open swath of shore? I am not against using established sites, but sometimes they are far apart and do not fit my itinerary well. In Ontario I would frequently do this on the Great Lakes.

Thanks in advance,

Cheers!
