An observation
Jumping on this train way way late so idk if this sub even active anymore, but wanted to share something I observed watching the last few episodes. Spoilers ahead.
After Danny’s breakdown and attempt, Jack takes over again and we see internally that Jack locks Danny in a stall, and gives his monologue about how Danny will be safer in there. Before this happened, we learned more about Danny’s internal system, and saw what was inside his head, we saw that Danny was never “awake” when they were around, which is a different kind of locked up. He stayed asleep, unaware of what the alters were doing, unaware of how they were protecting him.
It’s clear Jack is a protector and gatekeeper alter, his entire goal is to make sure nothing ever hurts Danny again. When another alter isn’t protecting him the way he believes Danny needs, he gets rid of that alter. He’s the one who keeps Danny asleep, who keeps him locked up, who keeps him what he believes to be safe.
Here’s my actual observation, it’s a very deliberate and fantastic choice to have Danny’s internal world be that barn. Because then we can clearly see that even though Jack, and the other alters, desperately want to keep Danny safe, desperately want to protect him, ultimately they are keeping him in that barn. And he can’t ever be truly safe there.
I don’t know man, this is a bunch of rambling but that little bit was so fascinating to me, and a good representation of how the brain tries to cope with trauma, and how after a point, the way the brain copes is what keeps the brain stuck in the trauma. Fantastic show, absolutely loved it.
