Tunnel 26: A huge disappointment

Rating: 4/10

lowkey i really wanted this movie to not disappoint and was also kinda was expecting it might not match expectations since it got so hyped. first off i'll start wiht the good parts:

  1. The cinematography and the CGI didnt disappoint. The first first trailer looked and felt like very AI (especially the signature soft glow and lack of detail that ai art produces) however the actual moview na lu the cgi doesnt look like AI generated at all. The CGI is really good and if they did use AI i cant make it out at all ( I think whoever created the first trailer really likes to use the chinese filter of softening).
  2. The makeup is pretty good.
  3. Nidup Dorji ( dude is the only guy who lowkey saved the film a bit) His character is also a wildcard but its just this dudes delivery and acting man. Im so amazed that he takes on really different roles and is able to deliver them all really well ( The king in puendarika, and a gomchen in this one )

NOWW all the bad parts.

First and the most important thing the fucking plot bro. the plot is so damn stupidd. there literally is zero thought into this and its so simple: okay the initial link of zombies tied to the mermaid deity is creative but thats about it. >!other than that the zombies chase them across different rooms and then they suddenly make it free after a last final battle with the boss. !<man with this plot it really could've just been a short film but i wasted 2 hours on it.

Second theres too many characters, it feels like all the influencers and known actors got put into this and eveyrone of them gets alloted a little screen time that at the end theres no space at all for any character development in any of them. A lotta the actors share a lotta screen time but overall speak like 3 dialogues through out the movie. Like kaya, tsheki, phuntsho kinrab, all say like about 5-10 lines and thats it. I get okay that including influencers in it is going to make your film big but woww do you really have to go to this extent.

Also on that note i think there are influencers who can act and who still need a bit of training yknow. and im not gonna name names but you can see that very clearly in the movie. The difference between the seasoned actors and the ones that come outta the blue but share a significant role along side the main ones. Like sangay tshultrim, deki lhamo, nidup dorji, anna sharma they're really good at what they do. But when you contrast that with the screen time some of the other actors get its like the difference becomes so obvious you kinda dont like it.

The nepali guys english really throws me off and also all the english parts throw me off as well. Like sounds like white english pandering saying this but the accent from sangay tshultrim and the other nepali guy makes it hard to enjoy for me. I dont get why if they were nepali, why they just coudlnt have had all of them speak nepali to each other yknow. Anna sharma her parts though are honestly fine.

There is literally zero character development in this movie even the main actor himself. theres certain loopholes >!like how does sangay tshultrim suddenly know that gunda boss is weak near the portal!<. I feel like if the script writer asked chatgpt to make it more interesting it would have done a way better job.

I dont know how much creative freedom DD kinley had but i think he also directed/wrote sheindrey and its looking like his films maybe need more work on the plot.

Overall im glad they didnt air it in nepal yet and honestly hope they dont, i dont want this to be the first export (know its said as joint partnership but this is all based in bhutan and the only nepali partnership i see is 4 actors from nepal and behind the scenes stuff) so it really does feel like a bhutan export. This is not the best work we have produced and i feel like it would ruin bhutanese movie reputation in nepal.

Overall was a waste of 2 hours but hey the new cinema KC Cinemax is really good and clean (for now atleast) and theyre also airing Avengers Doomsday soon.

Lastly before anyone comments "This is why i dont watch bhutanese movies/ bhutanse movies are all ass they follow same plot boy love girl" or any other arrogant comments without even having watched 4 new bhutanse movies in the past year you dont get to say shit. Cause the industry is really trying new things and its also working. CGI is a lot better already plots aren't always boy love girl ( take Keta LCA, Drukpas Heart, which were all good watches tbh). And even if it is that, case in point puendarika it is still enjoyable. So dont say shit without even having watched any of these please.

Tunnel 26 is ass but dont extend it to the whole drubi movie scene.

Idk these were my thoughts, thoughts from anyone who watched it?

They try to put some form of small romance, camarederie, love stories and context of like 8-9 people its just doing too much

Influencer gi silence and the cost of speaking out

I feel like r/bhutan takes a pretty binary view on this: "influencers only speak up when it's convenient, they're just selfish clout chasers." I don't think that's the full picture.

The silence isn't really about morals, it's about incentives in a tight knit community. u/Spare_Attitude1010 nailed it: it's about the cost of speaking out. And most people calling for influencers to "speak up" have nothing to lose themselves. Anonymous reddit accounts, third parties with no social overlap to the situation, people posting on IG about cases that don't touch their circle at all. Being angry is valid. But being able to rage freely because you have nothing on the line doesn't put you on higher moral ground than someone staying quiet because they do.

The only people I'd give real credit to are the ones who actually face repercussions for speaking out: Kuensolanin, Drukpa Dorji, people who call it out knowing there might be a huge cost to them. Namgay Zam voicing her opinion on the Passu case despite being friends with those involved is the kind of thing that actually means something. That's bravery. Raging on an anon subreddit when you're not embroiled in anything isn't.

And personally, I get why people stay quiet. I go out a lot, the same rowdy crowd could easily recognize me and fuck me up, it's not hard to get a target on your back in a place this small. That's the same lack of bravery I'm calling out in influencers. So are half the people commenting angrily on this sub. None of us are better than them just because we're loud about it from a place of safety.

None of this means don't be angry, you should be. But own that being enraged doesn't make you a better person than the ones staying silent, unless you're also willing to put something on the line.

Now, some people will point to certain influencers who are built around social justice or feminism as counterexamples, "see, this influencer does speak up." But that doesn't really hold up either. Their whole image is built on that kind of activism so they basically have to speak on it, and their social circles don't overlap with the people involved anyway, so they lose nothing by doing it. It's not bravery, it's brand alignment with zero cost.

Which is also why the original "influencers and selective activism" post was fair. During the LZMSS case, every sonam tashi karma influencer/vlogger suddenly had a lot to say, often prefaced with "I don't usually speak on this kind of stuff but...". They got to look like they were taking some moral stand, when really it was just an easy, no cost opportunity to speak out. The post rightly called that out. They weren't actually more principled than anyone else, they just happened to be in a situation where speaking up cost them nothing that time.

Thimphu Middle Class Starter Pack

lmao i might just be pulling shit outta my ass. but i feel like this one came quite naturally to me as well. Struggled the most with the upper middle class cause i realized i dont really have much friends from that circle. Not too sure how accurate this might be but the last one atleast didnt ruffle anyones feathers or had anyone accusing me.

There's more yet to come can you guess the next one? Its not lower class cause frankly i dont have any personal experience in that class so its too disingenuous. Any ways what else did i miss in this starter pack

Also forgot to add but life pipeline prolly looks like this:

Olakha primary school --> Changzamtok middle school --> lungtenzamp class 9 & 10 --> YHSS/Motithang 11 & 12 --> RUB College --> Civil Service (2 years) --> Australia

something other than clubbing

before i begin im a dedicated space 34 fan and have been giving my attendance for the past year and a half. but now im beginning to think about something else i could do on the weekends rather than get home at 6 in the morning and begin my day at 1pm the next day.

But overall jokes aside im kinda curious what other activities are there that are as popping or happening as the night life scene on weekends. I feel like we genuinely have a really happening night life scene and my chillip charos whenever i take them out are really surprised by the energy and happening and also they have a shit ton of fun as well. But outside of the late night convos that happens while i bar hop from old factory to alchemy to blackout, wondering what else is there that is as fun, as happening and where you get to meet other people too.

the obvious ones are hiking, camping trekking but those take a lotta planning and honestly arent something you can easily wake up and say lets go. also they arent things to do every weekend. Although they are really fun especially in bhutan with this wonderful nature but i thihnk something less intensive interms of scheduling.

Theres also cafe hopping but thats just like bar hopping without the alchool and the fun and less baddies.

Recently i've seen a running club and that looks really cool so thats a pretty good example. and apparently a lotta people come to it so exactly spaces like these where you get to meet new people and stuff. I've seen YDF gi innovation place do Friday Friends quite a bit but thats once a month and honestly after having gone to one was wayy too formal for me.

Another one that i really like, and i think this applies more to dudes but seeing more girls now as well is football on weekends. its very social and also a nice clean healthy activity and has this non huge commitment unlike hiking.

wondering if anyone else has any other suggestions where you have fun and can meet new poeple too. Please I need to find something that doesnt invovle me dancing until 3am and drinking thukpa at 4am and reaching home at 5am
