Bazzite 44 – How do I get Sunshine to automatically start in Gamescope/Game Mode?

Bazzite 44 – How do I get Sunshine to automatically start in Gamescope/Game Mode?

I updated to Bazzite 44 and saw that Sunshine had been removed. After doing some Googling, I found the Bazzite documentation explaining that Sunshine is no longer included in the base image and the alternative installation methods.

I ended up installing the community-maintained COPR version with:

sudo dnf5 copr enable pvermeer/sunshine

rpm-ostree install sunshine-beta

It worked, and I'm actually getting the best Sunshine performance I've ever had.

The only issue is that after restarting the PC, Sunshine doesn't seem to start while I'm in Gamescope/Game Mode. I have to switch over to Desktop Mode first, which starts Sunshine, and then I can return to Game Mode and everything works.

Has anyone using the pvermeer COPR version figured out how to have Sunshine automatically start at boot and be available directly in Gamescope without having to enter Desktop Mode first?

I'm basically trying to make the PC completely headless – boot it up and immediately be able to connect through Moonlight without touching the PC.

I saw 5 days ago that there's a new community repo and can go down that rabbit hole if needed but would prefer just to use pvermeer. https://github.com/sjauijn/wonderful-bazzite/

Edit: See my comment below of enabling the service.

But also, I learned something new. I stream from my bazzite gamescope session to my Legion Go 2 using moonlight and have always had graphics issues with the menu not showing when in game, fps count, etc. You can fix this (albiet I don't know downsides) by going to Game Mode it's Settings > System > Enable Devleloper Mode. Then go to Developer tab is "Force Composite" in the Miscellaneous section. No more sunshine graphical issues (although I'm sure this adds problems I don't know about)
