We often get asked which batch is best for this classic 2019 colorway. At the moment, GX seems to be the only factory still restocking it. Hope this comparison helps you guys make a choice!

After 7 years, GX’s retail pair has naturally oxidized and picked up some dirt, but it still works perfectly for comparing the key details.

One Difference I Noticed: The gap between the silver Jumpman logo and the surrounding leather on the heel still doesn’t match retail perfectly. This is a common issue across all factories producing this colorway.

GUYS PLEASE READ REVIEW TEXT:

Hi Dogs I wanted to do a proper side-by-side on the RSD Black Phantom because honestly, comparing a rep to only one retail pair can be pretty misleading. I used two different retail versions here, and you can already see how much retail itself varies. Retail 2 is especially interesting because if you received that pair after paying almost $800, you’d probably be wondering what Nike is doing with their QC.

Starting with the shape, RSD is very close to retail. The toe box has pretty much the same overall height, curvature and shape, and the overall silhouette is very similar. The two retail pairs themselves already differ in shape, so there’s really no point obsessing over matching one specific retail pair perfectly. RSD actually looks a little more consistent between the two shoes, while the retail pair has some noticeable asymmetry.

The stitching is also very close. The double white stitching around the toe box, panels and heel is clean on RSD and follows the retail construction really well. There are small differences in stitch spacing and placement if you sit there with both pairs in your hands looking for microscopic details, but that’s exactly the kind of stuff nobody is going to notice when you’re actually wearing them.

The material is probably the most interesting part. RSD has a really good texture on the black material and the hairy panels look very close to retail. In some areas I actually think the RSD looks more consistent than Retail 2. And once again, the two retail pairs themselves have different material texture, which just shows how inconsistent retail can be.

The toe box material and perforations are also very well done. The hole placement and overall appearance are very close to retail, and I don’t see anything here that would make me seriously criticize the RSD pair.

The swoosh is another strong point. The shape, curve and placement are very close to retail, including how the swoosh sits against the surrounding panels. Looking specifically at Retail 2, you can see that even retail has differences in swoosh shape and placement, so there’s really no reason to call out RSD over some tiny difference that Nike themselves can’t even keep consistent.

The heel shape is good as well. The bee and Air Jordan embroidery look clean and the proportions are very close. There are small differences in the embroidery itself, but nothing major. Again, retail isn’t perfect here either. Side by side, the RSD heel construction actually looks very convincing.

The midsole is basically what you’d expect from a good pair. The thickness, shape and white stitching around the midsole are very close to retail. I don’t see any major difference that would matter on foot. The outsole and overall proportions are also very similar.

The tongue is another area where RSD gets surprisingly close. The Nike Air branding, tongue construction and padding are very similar to retail. The RSD tongue does look slightly different in texture and shape compared with retail, but it’s a minor difference. The padding and overall construction look good.

One thing I definitely wouldn’t focus too much on is the exact black color in these pictures. The retail pair is almost four years old, and materials can change over time even if the shoe hasn’t been heavily worn. Lighting also changes the appearance of black suede and textured materials a lot. A DS retail pair straight out of the factory on release day doesn’t necessarily look exactly the same years later.

When it comes to comfort, the RSD feels like what I’d expect from a good AJ1 Low build. For me they’re TTS and comfortable for everyday wear. Obviously comfort depends on your feet, but I don’t see any reason to choose retail purely because you think it’s going to be dramatically more comfortable.

And now we get to the biggest point of this entire comparison: Retail vs Retail 2. Both are retail pairs, yet you can already see differences in shape, materials, stitching, heel construction and overall appearance. That’s Nike QC for you. Retail isn’t some magical perfectly manufactured reference where every single pair comes out identical. Especially with black shoes, retail can vary a LOT.

So don’t overthink every tiny detail when comparing RSD to one specific retail pair. Nike QC is honestly pretty bad, and Nike isn’t losing sleep over whether you complain about a small stitching issue or not. If you pay almost $800 and receive a pair like Retail 2, that’s honestly much worse than having some tiny difference on a top-tier rep.

And I’m not even talking only about RSD here. Generally, when you buy a good top-tier rep, you can honestly end up being much more satisfied than with a random retail pair. The materials are good, the shape is good, the stitching is good, and most importantly, you can actually wear the shoes without constantly worrying about damaging a pair you paid $800 for. Of course, the next comparison will be LJR vs Retail vs RSD. Just give me a little time to prepare everything properly for you guys.

Something about the seller:

As for Panda Vault as a seller, my experience with them has been good and that’s why I was comfortable getting this pair for the comparison. What I like about them is that they can source serious batches and you don’t necessarily have to go for the cheapest option just to save a few dollars. Obviously, like with any seller, always check the QC on your own specific pair and don’t blindly trust anyone just because they have a good reputation. The rep community would have learned that lesson by now if people weren’t so obsessed with marketing.

That’s it guys, that’s my opinion. If someone doesn’t like my opinion, that’s completely fair. I’m just saying what I see, what I feel and what I actually have in my hands. I’m not defending RSD, I’m not defending Panda Vault and I’m not defending any batch. If something looks good, I’ll say it looks good. If I see a flaw, I’ll point it out. There’s no reason for me to hype a batch just because other people like it.

Just like the name suggests, the whole shoe features an Ice Blue colorway. The upper has an irregular ostrich-leather texture, while the heel keeps the classic embossed “Cactus Jack face” logo. The insoles feature the signature thorn-style graphics.

Both the Blue and Pink colorways officially released last week. I borrowed retail pairs and took them outdoors for a detailed side-by-side comparison with Y3. Hopefully this helps anyone interested in the Awake AJ6 series.

1. Shoebox
Features a completely new box and tissue paper design. The sticker accessory has been removed.

2. Side Panel
Uses the same distinctive “A” shaped side panel and reflective detailing seen on the AJ5 Awake collaboration.

GX is once again the first factory to release this model. This time, Nike has brought glow-in-the-dark elements back to the “Halloween” theme.
I borrowed a fully disassembled retail pair from the GX factory for a quick detail check.

Glow Details:
The tongue, heel logo, and translucent outsole all feature glow-in-the-dark elements, which you can clearly see in the photos.

I’ve also confirmed with LJR and Y3 that they are preparing this model as well. Once they are officially released, I’ll purchase a brand-new retail pair and make a more detailed full comparison.

Got these in hand recently and wanted to give my honest take on the GX batch. There’s a lot to like here, but it’s definitely not perfect yet.

First, the overall shape is really solid. The toe box has a nice profile, the heel shape looks good, and the proportions feel natural on foot. The silhouette is one of the stronger parts of this batch.

The materials are also very good. The olive suede has nice texture and movement, while the leather panels feel soft and premium. Nothing about the materials gives me that cheap rep feeling. Similar in-hand reviews of the Olive have also praised the suede, leather and overall construction.

The reverse Swoosh is decent. The shape and placement are good, but this is still one of the areas where GX could improve. There are different retail references for this shoe, so you really need to know which retail pair you are comparing against before judging the Swoosh.

The toe box looks good to me, the heel embroidery is clean, and the stitching throughout the pair is consistent. Nothing major stood out to me in terms of construction.

One thing I noticed immediately is the midsole. The GX midsole is somewhat soft/flimsy. But let me make this clear: that does not automatically mean the shoe is bad or that GX is a bad batch. Softer midsoles can happen on retail as well. It’s something I’d like GX to improve, but I definitely wouldn’t RL the shoe based on that alone.

The midsole color is another area that needs work. It looks too yellowish compared with retail, where the midsole looks much cleaner and whiter. This is something multiple batches struggle with on this colorway, and it’s one of the areas I’d like to see improved.

The materials themselves are honestly one of the best parts of the GX pair. The suede has good movement and the leather feels really nice in hand. That’s probably the part I was most impressed with.

My biggest complaint is actually the glue smell. It’s extremely noticeable when you first open the box and handle the shoes. I’d really like GX to use a better adhesive because the smell is unnecessarily strong. The shoes shouldn’t smell like someone opened a chemical factory inside the box.

NOTE: RSD and PV are currently working on two different Swoosh versions for this model. One will have the darker/dead green Swoosh, while the other will have the lighter green Swoosh with suede movement.

The reason for doing both versions is simple. There are different retail references being discussed, and we don’t want to force everyone into one option. If you prefer the dead green Swoosh, you’ll have that version. If you prefer the lighter suede-movement Swoosh, that option will also be available.

The goal is to get the Swoosh color, texture, shape and the rest of the shoe as accurate as possible instead of focusing on just one detail.

My opinion

Overall, GX did a really good job with this pair. Honestly, you’re not going to find many batches that offer this level of quality for the price. That’s just my personal opinion. The materials are strong, the construction is clean, the toe box looks good, and the overall shape is solid.

The main areas I’d like to see improved are the Swoosh, midsole firmness, midsole color, and especially the glue smell.

For those who experienced the golden era of sneaker culture, seeing Nike bring back the classic Oreo after 16 years brings back a lot of memories. It reminds me of when I was younger and used to save up just to buy the sneakers I really wanted. lol

As a longtime sneaker fan,LJR has also decided to restart production of the AJ6 series.

1. Speckle Detail: LJR did a great job here. Both the density and size of the speckles are very close to retail.

2. Heel Jumpman Embroidery: It uses the same horizontal embroidery style as retail. You can clearly see the rough/frayed edges around the stitching—this is not a flaw, it’s important detail.

3. Shape: The full heel and smooth, rounded “butt” shape have always been one of LJR’s biggest strengths on the AJ5 and AJ6.

4. One Difference I Noticed:

The black suede on retail has a denser nap and appears slightly darker than LJR.

Conclusion:

In 2026, I’m glad I can add one of my teenage dream sneakers back to my collection. Even though the design is 16 years old, I still find myself taking it out of the closet just to admire it from time to time.

Guys, I’ve been seeing a lot of discussion about RSD, LJR, FK, GX etc. bending or having softer midsoles, so I want to clear something up because I think some people are overthinking it.

Yes, some pairs will have a softer midsole and some will be firmer. That is completely normal and does not automatically mean the batch is bad.

Honestly, from everything I’ve tested so far, RSD has consistently had a very sturdy midsole. I think part of that comes down to the smaller production compared to LJR. LJR is a much larger factory producing huge quantities, so naturally you’re going to see more variation and occasional production mistakes.

That doesn’t mean LJR is bad at all, it’s just how mass production works. Even retail pairs can have inconsistencies.

Midsole firmness can change depending on how much the shoe has been worn, how it has been stored, the materials used, and simple production differences between individual pairs. Factory mistakes and inconsistencies can happen too. Sometimes a pair simply isn’t compressed or constructed exactly the same during production, which can make the midsole feel softer or more flexible.

I have a lot of different batches in hand, and I’ve seen both. Some pairs have extremely firm midsoles, while others bend more. It happens across different batches, so I wouldn’t say LJR is bad because one pair bends, or RSD/FK/GX is automatically better because someone got a firmer pair.

Guys, please read the text before commenting. The pair in the picture is retail, not a rep. ‼️

Here’s probably the easiest example: this is my retail Fragment 2.0 on picture just to be clear. The midsole is actually pretty soft, and I can literally put my hand on it and make it bend like this lol.

That obviously doesn’t mean the retail quality is bad. It’s simply production variation. Even retail pairs can have softer or bendier midsoles, so the same thing can happen with reps. That’s exactly my point: a softer midsole on one pair doesn’t automatically mean the batch is bad or low quality. Production varies, even on retail.

So please don’t judge an entire batch based on one pair or one video of someone bending a shoe. A sturdy midsole doesn’t automatically make a batch the best, and a softer midsole doesn’t automatically make it bad.

Look at the whole shoe: shape, materials, construction, details, comfort and how it actually performs over time. No factory makes every single pair identical, and retail isn’t perfect either.

Production mistakes happen. That’s just reality with sneakers.

RSD Batch Officially Enters the SB Dunk Game 🦞🔥

Guys, just to be clear, PV and I are already working on this project. Please understand that this is going to be a very difficult project and a serious challenge for both of us, especially because we want to do things properly from the beginning.

We decided to start with the SB Lobster series. If the sales go well, everything you guys have been asking for and talking about in the comments will be taken into consideration and we’ll work towards making it happen.

Please just give us some time. Up until now, we have never lied to you guys about our plans, and we’re not going to start now. If we say we’re going to work on something, we genuinely mean it.

WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?

The simple answer is that we don’t think there is a truly accurate SB Lobster batch on the rep scene right now.

Don’t get me wrong, PK, M and S batch are good and they look good for everyday wear, but when you actually compare them to retail, there are still quite a few differences.

The biggest issue is the materials. The current batches don’t use the exact type of materials that retail uses, mainly because producing them properly is extremely expensive.

Then you have the shape, swoosh, heel and other small details. They’re decent, but they’re still not at the retail level.

That’s exactly what we want to improve.

We don’t want to make another PK, M or S batch with a different name. We want to make an actual RSD Batch, just like we’ve done with our other projects.

Better materials, better shape, more accurate swoosh, better heel and much more attention to the small details.

If you’re going to spend your money on a pair, our goal is that you actually feel like you’re getting something back for that money. We want to give you the best version we can realistically produce, not simply another average batch on the market.

WHAT ARE WE AIMING FOR?

• Retail-like shape
• High-quality materials
• Correct swoosh thickness and size
• Colors as close to retail as possible
• Accurate heel shape/details
• Limited box

And yes, PV will be making the limited box for you guys, so you will actually be getting the limited box with the pair. Big respect to PV for agreeing to do that for the community.

Regarding the bigger sizes, we’re not sure yet if we’ll be able to make them.

Getting a mold that large will be difficult, but we’re working on it and PV will try to source a larger size mold.

THE DEVELOPMENT PROCESS

One very important thing: please understand that this project will take time.

PV will already start looking for and purchasing retail samples so we can study them properly and begin developing the first RSD sample versions.

We are not going to rush the process just to get a pair on the market quickly. We want to compare the retail samples, work on the shape, materials, colors and details, then keep improving the samples until we’re happy with the result.

I’ll personally keep you guys updated throughout the process and post the progress, samples and important updates here so everyone can follow along.

We’re starting with the SB Lobster series and Travis Scott SB Dunk series, but we are definitely not stopping there.

Today, after talking with PV, we discussed the possibility of starting a proper SB Dunk series. The main reason is simple: we still don’t feel like there is a truly accurate SB Dunk batch out there that gets the shape, materials and small details right.

If you remember, from the very beginning we said that we didn’t want to focus only on TS Lows. We’ve always had plans to work on other models as well.

SB Dunks, AJ3s, AJ4s and other series are all part of the plans we have for the future.

The SB Lobster series will definitely not be an easy or cheap project for us. Some retail Lobster colorways, especially the Blue Lobsters, can reach prices of around $18,000 on the resale market.

Getting the shape, materials, colors and small details right will be a serious challenge, and developing these pairs will require a lot of time and investment.

But we’re prepared to take on that challenge for the community and our members. The goal isn’t just to make another SB Dunk. We want to put the work into making these pairs as accurate as possible and give the community something worth waiting for.

We have some big plans for next year, and our goal is to keep expanding RSD and work on more models while maintaining the same focus on shape, materials and overall quality.

My goal would be to work closely with PV and help develop the shape and overall construction so we can finally get an SB Dunk that actually looks and feels the way it should.

LJR completed its second restock this week and updated several details from the previous batch. I took the pair outdoors for another detailed check.

Updates:

1. Upper Stitching: LJR now uses a darker blue nylon thread, bringing the color much closer to retail.

2. Toe Shape: The toe height has been adjusted based on the official retail release. I photographed it from multiple angles for a clearer comparison.

3. Tongue Groove: After receiving feedback, LJR also corrected the previously shallow tongue groove in this restock.

4. Icy Outsole: My retail pair has been sitting in the office for nearly two months and has already started to oxidize. For a more accurate color comparison, please check my previous comparison post.

Conclusion:

Most factories produce the first batch based on early retail samples. After the official release, we will purchase retail pairs again and update details in later restocks based on direct comparison and market feedback.
