Smart watch spedometer?

I ride a ks s18p+. There's no way that I know of to monitor my speed, and im curious if there's a smart watch app anyone uses to monitor their speed while riding.

2 week noob check in

Its been 2 weeks now and I have to say up to this point it is not the experience I expected. Honestly, I was over confident before my s18 came in, I had some nervousness but believed I'd get it quickly. Arrogantly nervous?

After my first day I was utterly disheartened. I felt like I couldn't do jack on my wheel, it had more power and stability on its own than I expected. I couldn't maintain any balance. It just felt like a mountain of a skill climb was in front of me and I didnt know if I could ever get over the first step.

Now I am not a rich man. Far from it and anyone in this forum knows how much money a new wheel costs. That perhaps, more than any other reason made want to make this work. It had better right?

Thankfully on day 2, after making some adjustments, things went so much better. That first week spent at a park basketball court and then the Saturday at a bigger parking lot getting comfortable showed me that there was hope.

Then the next day I tried to road ride and that went less than stellar... damn new asphalt ruined some of the confidence I was building.

This week I have been riding it from home to a school parking lot about 1km away and practicing there before riding it home. Each day I take new streets and this mornings after work ride was the best yet, I found some new paths great to open up on and was overall it was very pleasant.

Things ive learned:

  1. I need more time, practice and confidence, but I can and will get it if I get out there and ride

  2. My local law enforcement doesnt seem to care as ive passed them a few times, which is good since it's legally gray to ride on roads

  3. Before when I thought I had maxed my speed out, I hadn't, its now unlocked and for now, 30mph is plenty fast.

  4. Hey dudes actually make for really decent shoes for the purposes of my EUC. They don't offer protection but at my low speeds the thinner soles grip my spikes well and respond well to speed adjustments

  5. Small bumps are not scary. Yes, I was first intimidated by lip ledges at sidewalk ramps and filled in potholes, but if Im stable and thinkni can make it, I can. Having a suspension makes it feel like its all in my head

  6. This post really got away from me and what I initially intended to post. 🤣

What's up with new asphalt?

I was trying some late night cruising in my town because I work nights and the low traffic. I was able to transition to onto some new asphalt easily enough but it felt weird. When I stopped at the traffic light and went to start again however it was a disaster. Still new rider, s18, street tire. Is it just me or does fresh asphalt have some residual oil or something on it which is a little trickier?

Day 2 on the s18 for a complete noob

Training after work in a local park, day 1 sucked, I just couldn't get it. For day 2 I lowered my tire pressure a little bit, did some balance exercises, and started to make myself look where I wanted to go, not immediately, but I did quickly make progress. I stayed on my wheel doing figure 8s and straight line speed and slow sprints on the asphalt basketball court for 20 minutes, it was glorious. I did okay on the chip and tar street surrounding the park, until I hit the gravel alley. And the grass still sucks. More to work on, but I think it came with a street tire, so that may make a difference

Im upset

I've never ridden an EUC. Im a 42 or old man child (this is important later) from rural-ish ohio. I've got my motorcycle endorsement but don't actually have a bike anymore. Gas is over 4.50 a gallon, granted I don't live far from work, somewhere in the 5 to 10 mile range and most of that is in town. My late-night youtube algorithm for some reason put a video about an euc on my feed and I stuck... im researching now. I mention to my wife about getting one for my commute in decent weather and some just plain fun riding, she gives me the all clear "do it, you deserve it if you want it." And I bite. I have a Kingsong S18 pro+ headed my way, will be here on friday the 22nd, which is perfect because that gives me a holiday weekend to break myself in, except not. A delay in shipping out and now makes it deliver on Tuesday, so my inner child is now angry I have to wait. Thank you for listening to my rant.
