418 last night

Hey everyone,

I’m new here and honestly typing this while trying to process a lot of fear and anger. Both of my parents have lived with diabetes for years, but nothing prepares you for the moment it becomes your own reality.

Last night, I just randomly decided to test my blood sugar. When the monitor flashed 418, my heart completely dropped. Seeing a number that high out of nowhere was terrifying. I didn't eat anything for the rest of the night. When I checked it again this morning, it was down to 214.

I am 28 years old, just starting to really build my life and my career, and it feels like life just threw a freaking lemon right at my face. I'm gonna go see a doctor.

Anyone else who found out in their late 20s that they have diabetes, what did you do?

  • What should I expect at my first doctor's appointment for this?
  • How did you cope with the initial shock and anger of getting diagnosed so young?
  • Any advice on how to safely manage my food over the next 24-48 hours while I wait to see the doctor?

Thanks for listening. I really need some community support right now.
