Will discover ever unsuspend my account and allow me access back to my card or should I just close it?
I have been trying to figure this out with Discover and honestly I have never gotten so many different answers from one company.
Long story short, at one point I owed over $7k on my Discover It card. I’ve had the card since 2021. I recently paid the remaining balance off in full, which was over $4k. Before paying it off, I called Discover 3 separate times asking what the process would look like once the balance hit $0 because I’m genuinely trying to rebuild my credit and improve my relationship with finances.
This was my only credit card, and I’ve also made a huge dent in my student loans recently. Ideally, I’d love to regain access to the card and rebuild trust with the account. I even said I’d be willing to lower the credit limit if needed.
I’m also currently disputing a paid collection on my credit report because one Discover rep told me that was part of the reason my card still hasn’t been unsuspended, despite 8 months of on time payments and now having the card fully paid off.
The problem is every person at Discover tells me something different:
- one said the collections on my credit report are the reason, it is now paid off in full as well.
- another said it’s because of my 2025 payment history/utilization, for some reason my old bank was not depositing my payments and messed up for months
- another said they genuinely don’t know why and said I would have to wait until my standing with the account is refreshed on June 3rd
I just feel really confused because I’m trying hard to fix my finances and it feels impossible to get a straight answer. Has anyone been in a similar situation with Discover? I just want to know if I am wasting my time waiting for answers and should just close the account and move on?
