1916 bearish on RM

1916 bearish on RM

Starting at 14:30, Tim Mosso and Josh Thanos discuss RM. Their view is that RM’s star is waning relative to other independents where 1) there’s a clear watchmaker leading the brand and 2) there’s clearly time and craft spent on hand finishing each watch.

Thoughts?

I do think RM more recently has been smart to get back to their roots making “racing machines for the wrist.” There’s no more random celeb collabs like the Pharrell Williams or Jackie Chan on the current catalogue. Those were shameless cash grabs. It’s now mostly back to being high-functionality, cutting-edge engineering and material science focused pieces.

That being said, collector sentiment is fickle. It would be interesting to see how RM can adapt to changing collector taste without losing sight of what the brand represents.

I don’t have the right answers but as an RM fan and owner, I hope Richard, Alex, and the rest of the team are paying attention.

RM safety in public?

Do any of you guys daily an RM? Or wear it frequently around urban areas?

Do you feel it attracts undue and unwanted attention? Or does it end up less recognizable than say a Rolex for example since RMs are so much more niche?

Relatedly, I really wish RM offered something similar to AP’s factory 2-year anti-burglary anti-robbery coverage. Would be a helpful boost in confidence for owners to wear their RMs around more often.

NWA - RM 010 Ti

Was lucky enough to pick up a brand new RM 010 Ti at retail recently.

I was an RM skeptic until one day I wandered into the boutique and tried some on. They’re so incredibly comfortable to wear between the lightweight case materials and the curvature of the case underside.

And then the more research you do on RM’s history, the more you come to appreciate the unabashedly avant garde design, cutting edge research on material science, movement engineering, miniaturization & skeletonization, finishing, comfortable ergonomics, and sports sponsorships (F1, cycling, tennis, golf, etc.)

Granted, I still think some of the designs are a bit too out there in size or color (to the point of being tacky / gauche). But the RM 010 has the original Mille DNA of titanium, monochrome color way, tonneau case shape, skeletonization, 3D vertical movement depth, exotic materials, and shock resistance.

I also think the price is fair ($138K MSRP in 2026). For guys that wear a tshirt to work, this will get way more wrist time than something similar in price range. Like a Patek Perpetual Calendar dress watch.

So thrilled to be an RM owner, already thinking about what’s next on the list. Maybe the 72-01 black ceramic, 67-01 platinum, or 67-02 in any white TPT case. RM guys, tell me if that’s too ambitious of a list 😂

Cheers all!
