What other kind of interesting books has anyone found for long haul flights?

Besides the normal crossword, sudoku, & word find books. Obviously not the reading kind. I have tons of books to read but looking for something different for a couple of long haul flights.

What do you do with the dirty clothes?

I find that by mid-trip my dirty clothes bag gets bulky and messes up my initially orderly packing. If you have any packing strategies for keeping the dirties separate and still keeping things neat in my suitcase.

Mixed gender vs female only dorms

I'm noticing that the cheaper prices are for the mixed gender dorms. My gut tells me to book the female only rooms and pay a little more but I wanted to see what your experience with hostel stays has been like.

Have you ever reached a point where you no longer wanted to simply visit a destination, but instead wanted to become part of it for a while?

Not relocating. Not being a tourist.

Just living there long enough to find your favourite café, greet familiar faces, develop a routine, and feel that you belong—even temporarily.

I'm curious... is this something you've started looking for as well, or am I the only one?

how do you stay warm on long night flights?

I had a long flight last night and was freezing while sleeping. Such an uncomfortable feeling! Thankfully, I had a hoodie with me, but I still felt cold. I think a wool blanket would be great but at the same time I don’t want to overload my carryon. I’d love to hear your tips for staying warm on the plane!

What's in your carry on?

I was thinking recently about what I always have in my carry on or even personal item and thought it would be a great question for those who travel often or who have travelled for years.

For me, item I always carry are

* A small crossbody bag which can fit into my personal item (usually a backpack). The cross body bag must fit my passport, a small wallet, phone, lip balm and small packet or tissues of hand wipes.

* A large scarf which can double as a pashmina, wrap or even blanket.

* Noise cancelling headphones which can be wireless OR plugged in via a cable.

For your 1st solo trip, international or domestic?

I would say domestic but if you want international go somewhere that speaks the same language as you so if something happens you don’t have to worry about miscommunication.

Is it safe to leave the resorts and touristy areas in the Dominican Republic?

I have heard it is such a beautiful island but my friends and family say you should not leave those areas. There are 18 national parks there and I want to see many of them.
