Probably the coolest amp I’ve ever seen. Rumor has it that this amp would blow up its own speakers if dimed. 85 watts, 4x 5881 power tubes, 2x12” Jensen speakers and massive clean headroom. This one has had some mods but returned to original spec. Sticker is $19995, but it looks like they’ll let it go for a cool $16,500.

I would be so scared to plug into this. 😂

There are 3 maple trees in a row in the parkway along my street. These are technically owned by the city but my HOA maintains the space. This tree has been looking thin for a few years but seems way worse this spring and isn’t leafing out very much. The tree next to it also looks like it’s in poor health, but not as dire.

This tree has been trimmed by a professional a couple of times in the last 5 years. The last visit they seemed to think it was fine. I’ve also noticed woodpeckers on it and wonder if it’s got some kind of infestation?

Any guesses? If it’s dead I will need to have it removed soon so it doesn’t become a hazard on this busy street (or fall into the building).

I have a 2.1 system with WiiM mini plugged into an Emotiva DAC-1. From there I split the signal with one set of outputs to an Onkyo TX-8220 driving Klipsch Heresy I vintage speakers, and a second set of outputs going directly to a powered sub. Source is either a turntable into WiiM mini, or Spotify streaming.

I am finding bass management difficult as the Heresy’s are running full range, and I find it difficult to blend the sub in with manual crossover. The Heresy’s are very efficient and require very little power to be loud, so I have to run much higher gain on the sub (nearly maxed) and this sometimes results in overly boomy deep bass. I also find some timing issues with the sub not feeling fully in sync with the mains. I have tried the room correction on the WiiM but this is really just an EQ and it just cuts the bass frequencies back to the point where the sub isn’t doing much.

Does a MiniDSP make sense as a solution here? It seems like I could eliminate the Emotiva DAC-1 (which I basically am using to split the signal, otherwise the WiiM DAC is probably just as good). So run the WiiM mini into MiniDSP and then output to amp + sub?

Reading about the MiniDSP it seems that a measurement microphone is needed for setup (UMK-1). I was about to buy both on MiniDSP website but they are adding a whopping $106 worth of “tariff” and shipping surcharges so I’m wondering if it’s better to buy from a US retailer, or if there are other options that do the same thing?
