I need advice about a Starkid related Halloween costume
To summarize a long list of potential tangents, I like to think about potential Halloween costumes a long time in advance. Not plan or prepare necessarily, but just to think about because I really love the holiday. I've been on a Starkid kick recently and I really loved Cinderella's Castle.
I'd love love LOVE to do a costume as Ella. Not just because she's awesome and beautiful, but because I actually have the same name as her irl and I think she's super cool. The problem is that...well...I'm white. While Bryce and this version of the character are obviously not.
Now to be clear, I'd never do blackface or anything horrible like that. The potential costume would be of the version of Ella above, the end of show version in the green dress. I'd probably just find a dress that best matches that, get a wig for the hair, and put on some basic makeup to clean up my face, nothing beyond that. But I'm still worried that it might be insensitive or offensive and that's the last thing I want. There's a lot of complexity to the situation, and I'm stuck in place at the moment unsure of what to do.
So I'm just going to try and get a read of how people react to the idea. I do really want to do this costume because of how much I love this character and show, but I want to get a read on it. Is there any way to do this in a careful/sensitive way? Is it fine/am I overthinking it? Or is it genuinely a bad idea from the jump? Thanks in advance.
