CM Vijay just signed a ₹15,000 crore deal for an L&T data centre in Kanchipuram. Only 8000 jobs. That's it.
But jobs aren't even the worst part.
Water:
This already happened in Georgia, USA. After a Meta data centre was built, residents' drinking water turned brown and dirty. A US congresswoman brought jars of that dirty water to Congress in May 2026. Another Georgia data centre secretly drained 30 million gallons of water — residents found out only when their taps ran dry. 10% of that entire community's daily water now goes to ONE data centre. People survive on bottled water.
Kanchipuram already faces water shortages. These facilities need massive clean freshwater for cooling 24/7. Water is not optional. You cannot survive without it. No amount of money replaces clean drinking water.
Electricity:
India's own parliament warned that data centres clustered in one area strain the entire local power grid. People in Tamil Nadu already face power cuts. Now imagine one facility consuming electricity like an entire state — while locals sit in the dark.
Noise:
Industrial cooling fans and chillers run 24/7 every single day permanently. People living nearby deal with constant mechanical noise forever.
Remember Sterlite? Government ignored locals. People paid with their lives. Are we making the same mistake in Kanchipuram?
Health is greater than money. You can earn money back. You cannot buy back clean water or a healthy life.
8000jobs. ₹15,000 crore. Our water. Our electricity. Our health. Not worth it.

This data centre deal was originally signed in 2021 under CM Stalin, and CM Vijay's government just renewed and expanded it in 2026. Both governments pushed this through without asking Kanchipuram locals."
This is actually stronger — it shows this is not a party issue, both DMK and TVK supported it, meaning no politician is protecting the people of Kanchipuram.
Also note — in 2021 they promised 1,100 jobs. Now in 2026 they say only 500. The job promise actually went downover 5 years
