Mimbres Valley, New Mexico

I was just driving the Trail of the Mountain Spirits byway recently. Something about the town of Mimbres and the surrounding area was very intriguing to me. It seems like a nice place to live, and quite peaceful l, although I know things aren’t always what they appear to be. What is it like to live there? What kind of work is there? How is it to grow up in that area? Not looking to move, I’m only curious.

My birthday solo camping adventure

I just went solo camping for the first time back in April. This time, I drove 7+ hours away to celebrate my birthday by camping in the Gila National Forest of southwestern New Mexico. Two different parts of it, actually. I camped for four nights, the first two nights being at the Cosmic Campground (a Dark Sky site) and then in the forest amongst the trees. I explored ghost towns and mining ruins, drove scary and narrow mountain roads, visited the National Radio Astronomy Observatory, saw pictographs and cliff dwellings, hiked to hot springs in the rain, crossed rivers and creeks many times, and drove through some absolutely beautiful landscapes. It was so awesome! I was exhausted afterward.

What are your unique camping destination suggestions?

For example, I found out there’s other day that you can camp outside of a wolf sanctuary in New Mexico. Or you can camp at a place near Skinwalker Ranch. I am very interested in offbeat places to go camping or hiking. Where have you gone, or heard about?
