Infotainment: Teen mode report - mostly useless

Infotainment: Teen mode report - mostly useless

Continuing my comments regarding the tech implementation on my 2026 Equinox EV, the Teen mode has such potential but the implementation makes it useless.

Below is an example report from the past 2 weeks we were away on vacation:

https://imgur.com/a/equinox-ev-teen-mode-report-mostly-useless-nUHP3Kt

Max speed 129 km/h (highest limit in our area is 100 km/h)!!!

33 Overspeed warnings!

33 forward collision alerts!!!!

So that is bad right? Can I click on them to find out date and time? Nope!

Can I see WHERE the events occurred via saved GPS data? Nope!

Was I flagged by alerts in myChevrolet app, by text or by email either via On-star connection or via wifi when the vehicle returns to home and connects? Nope.

Does it show which driver account was logged in when the events occurred? Nope!

So what the hell can I do with this? As ANYONE with teens know, they are experts in the "Shaggy" defence. "It Wasn't Me". Of course not a single one will say it was them.

Each event would only take up bytes of data to record date, time, driver profile active and GPS co-ordinates. It would take NOTHING to save the data into a CSV format that then could be emailed, texted, sent via myChevrolet, etc. At a bare minimum, in the onscreen report you should be able to click on each line of events to get a detailed breakdown of where, when and who.

And ideally the Teen app should also allow for online tracking of GPS coordinates and saving tracks to allow for monitoring vehicle usage. Ideally also with a geo fence, eg alerts if travelling more than X km from home. Their use of the car is a PRIVILEGE not a right and they have no right to privacy. If Chevy is worried about abusive partners or whatever a disclaimer popup when car is turned on could come up and say "Teen mode active, speed and location tracking active".

WHY oh why would they not implement this?

Edit: for helicopter parenting comments. Driving in a family vehicle is a privilege not a right and these results CLEARLY document one kid has been granted more trust than they are warranted and as a parent I wish to protect society (and this kid) from their CLEAR bad judgment/choices.

And yeah, I have a 3rd party also driving for commercial purposes and want to make sure vehicle is being used for designated commercial purposes. Android auto has the basic tool there and the data sources are available and being used in other apps. I am simply saying give me the option to let me use it.

Infotainment: HORRIBLE multi-user management

UPDATE: I am an idiot. Commenter mentioned you can press cancel which takes you to an account selection screen where you can choose other accounts. Not documented in the manual not brought up by online support. Not intuitive as 3 of us looking did not figure it out. Ideally instead of just “cancel” they put an icon and text that says "Switch accounts". Anyways, issue resolved!

New 2026 Equinox EV

Overall I like the vehicle and it is good quality for the price.

Object of this post is the HORRIBLE multiuser/account handling of the infotainment system.

We are a multidriver household, with both teens and adults. I like the teen mode but wish it had better granular reporting, proper gps map tracking and proper integration with the phone app. 2/5.

Major issue is each driver can set up a account/profile. Link their contacts, Google, maps, Spotify and the like. Given this direct access to our private info we want to pin protect these profiles. BUT there is no way to change accounts on car startup. The car remembers the last logged in account and requires their pin on car startup. There is no way to change accounts without entering this pin.

Eg. Driver 1 is logged in. Turn off car at 10pm. Driver 2 goes to work 6:30 am. Turn on car. Car asks for pin of driver 1! No way to do a forced logout or request to change to a different account. Driver 2 now has no music nor maps unless they wake up driver 1 to have them enter their pin.

Once pin entered you can select to change profiles and only then does it ask for the pin of the new profile.

This is crazy! It like every time to tried to log into a shared computer or Gmail/TEAMS you can’t log into YOUR account until you enter the password if the last user!

I can’t believe it was programmed this way. I spent hours reading the manual and internet searching but found no solutions. The Chevrolet chat support said that is the way it is and they would pass my comments along.

So if anyone has a solution or suggestion it would be greatly appreciated! We want driver profiles to be protected but allow people to switch/log into without needing info or presence of other drivers.

As an aside, I do wish the charging lid locked like it does on the RAV4 prime as we have semi-regular local reports of vandalism (glue/epoxy in charge ports). I don’t need it motorized, just a locking clip tied to door locks. My 20 year old gas cars had locking gas lids, don’t understand why this is not available on a way more expensive vehicle.

Thanks.

Edit: For those saying just remove the pin, there is not much privacy risk. I’m not going to get in détails but some NON-FAMILY drivers use this as well (properly insured) and I don’t want them having g root access to the cars settings, my or my kids Google Maps, contacts, etc. I also want to speed limit these drivers using some of the teen settings. The solution to a crappy UX should NOT be remove the PIN.
