Is it too late to apply for Fall Congressional internships?

From what I’ve seen, most deadlines are this week or next. I know it’s best to apply early, but I wasn’t originally planning on applying for fall internships. Is it a waste to apply this week? In offices where interviews have already started, do they just stop reviewing new applicants? For reference, I’d be mostly applying for MA delegation.

Why do those hiring do this

Hi everyone! For background, I am a recent graduate with a degree in political science and have over 3 years of experience in a professional administrative job, plus some policy related work.

I’ve been applying to more entry-level legal assistant/paralegal jobs at mostly small, local firms. I had this one interview two weeks ago and I thought it went amazing. One of the attorneys was the interviewer, and he expressed so much enthusiasm about me and I would be such a great fit. He even said he had no reservations about my ability to thrive in the role. He was very responsive by email both before and right after the interview.

He said that the next steps would be a second in person interview and they had a few more to interview and would reach out to those chosen for the second round hopefully towards the end of the next week (so last Thursday/Friday). He again expressed enthusiasm that he felt great about inviting me for that and that he would definitely reach out, and reiterated that in response to my thank you email.

On Monday, I sent a quick email just checking in since I hadn’t heard anything….crickets. I then look at my application today and it says not selected by employer. I’m frustrated because I just don’t understand how it went from that to absolutely nothing. I guess I can understand that maybe there were others after me that just wowed him even more, but after all he said you would think he would at least respond.

Suspicious of how hiring attorney reached out to me

Hi everyone! I recently graduated and am new to the legal hiring process. I feel like I’ve noticed that when it’s an attorney that’s reaching out to me, they seem to be much more casual than I would have expected.

I wanted to get opinions on one interaction I had after applying for a job via LinkedIn. Maybe I’m being overly cautious since it’s a position that would require me to move so it’s harder to ask around about a specific firm.

One of the attorneys reached out to me on LinkedIn after applying and asked about my long term career plans, which I responded to honestly. They then just asked me to email them and provided their email (I’ve already vetted that it is legit). It just seems a little odd to me since my email is on my resume and they reached out to me.

Is this something I should pursue? Is this something that’s typical in the legal field or am I right in be suspicious?
