I will be travelling to Sri Lanka in June 1st week with a toddler. Due concern with rains in the southern part, my initial itinerary was this.

June 1 arrival and overnight stay in Negombo

June 2 Negombo →Sigiriya. Rest and then afternoon Minneriya Safari

June 3 Sigiriya Water Gardens in the morning -> Passikudah

June 4 Full Passikudah beach day

June 5 Full Passikudah beach day

June 6 Passikudah → Dambulla Cave temple -> Kandy

June 7 Kandy sightseeing — Peradeniya Gardens, Temple of Tooth, Kandy Lake

June 8 Kandy -> Colombo.

June 9 Return flight in the evening.

I finalised a driver for this trip. After a few calls, I asked if he would suggest any modifications in the itinerary. He has suggested me an alternative itinerary. He is going to charge same for both the itineraries and I will be doing hotels booking online, so I don’t think he has any kickbacks motive too.

1st June

Arrival at 3 pm nd head to Kandy( will reach Kandy between 7-8pm) nd rest

2nd June (Kandy)
Explore Kandy city( Temple of the sacred tooth relic,Kandy view point nd shopping nd relaxing)

3rd June (Ella)
Leaving to Ella( after breakfast around 9am)via Nuwaraeliya ( visit Sitha Amman temple,tea plantation nd the factory,Ramboda water falls )

4th June (Ella)
Explore Ella nd rest

5th June (Yala)
Leaving to Yala after breakfast ( 10am)nd explore Tissamaharama nd rest

6th June (Weligama)
Yala safari( 6am- 11am) nd after having lunch( between 2-3pm)leaving to Weligama nd rest. ( I might skip the Yala altogether considering toddler’s comfort)

7th June (Weligama)
Whale watching ( 6am-11am)in the morning, after lunch at hotel explore the beach nd rest.

8th June (Weligama)
Snorkeling with turtles after having the breakfast 9am-11am ,lunch nd rest in the hotel ,going to Galle fort at 4 pm nd explore the fort/ shopping/ dinner nd back in weligama hotel by 10pm

9th June
Leaving to the air port after breakfast to catch the evening flight.

Now I am confused. Can I please have some suggestions on these itineraries? My primary concern is downpours. I don’t mind occasional rains.

Air India cancelled my return flight from CMB in June 1st week and postponed it by couple of days. I am thinking of booking a Srilankan Airlines flight now.

I will be travelling with a toddler and now I am feeling jittery about the whole trip fearing last minute cancellations as well as any hassles due petrol crisis locally.

Also the hotels I was looking for in Passikudah are sold out and have only expensive options. I changed my plan from Trinco to Passikudah due to availability of cheaper resort options.

Any ground level feedback is appreciated.

We are travelling to Sri Lanka for 8 nights from June 1 to 9. We also have a 2 years old with us.

We are looking to have a relaxed holiday with a mix of natural beauty (mountains in Kandy), ancient temples (The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic (Kandy) and Dambulla Cave Temple), relaxed beaches (Passikudah/Trincomalee). This is our tentative itinerary.

June 1 - Arrival and go to Negombo for overnight stay.

June 2 - Negombo -> Kandy. Sight seeing for the rest of the day.

June 3 - Kandy sightseeing

June 4 - Kandy -> Dambulla Cave Temples -> Sigriya

June 5 - Sigriya sighseeing in the morning and then from Sigriya -> Passikudah

June 6 - Passikudah beach day

June 7 - Passikudah beach day

June 8 - Passikudah -> Colombo. Overnight stay. Visit Galle face green if time/weather permits.

We would be grateful if people could give some feedback on this itinerary. I am not sure if I have broken the journey in Kandy/Sigriya properly or I can explore Minneriya National Park while I am there.

I am also looking for options for cabs with drivers as we will have a toddler and we want to use private car for transportation. Any reliable suggestions would also be helpful.
