UIUC MCS vs NUS MComp

Hey everyone,

Just got a late admit for UIUC MCS. I’ve already accepted and paid the deposit for NUS MComp.

Background:

  • Exp: 2 years YOE (SDE).
  • Goal: Industry. No PhD.
  • Location: International student (India).

Given the current tech hiring climate, I’d really appreciate input from current students or recent grads.

  1. ROI for international students: How has UIUC MCS worked out in terms of internships/full-time outcomes, especially with the current US job market + visa constraints?
  2. Brand value: How much does the UIUC CS brand actually help with recruiter response/interviews?
  3. MCS vs MSCS perception: I know MCS is a professional program and MSCS is research-focused, but in practice, do recruiters or employers treat them differently?
  4. Any other pointers to help me make this decision 😄

I’ve seen older comparison threads, but the market has changed a lot recently, so I’m hoping for current perspectives.

Thanks a lot—any honest input would really help.
