Questions about boat building

Building my first Falcon and after constructing the bare basics (ship, rudder, helm, engine) I notice that I can already fly. This raises a number of questions about all of the other potential components?:

  1. What is the purpose of ailerons? Are they necessary and do they contribute anything other than appearance?

  2. Same question regarding wings?

  3. And sails?

  4. With respect to each of these components, does it matter how many of each are installed? For example, will adding more than one sail have any impact on any aspect of the ship's performance?

  5. What tips or tricks are available to help make my ship fly faster, other than finding a core engine - Speed?

Any insights or suggestions are much appreciated, thanks!

How to get past the blue dome protecting the Sand Bandit?

I have previously destroyed blue domes over small airship camps just by blowing up red barrels. There doesn't appear to be enough accessible red barrels to blow up this guy's dome. So, I made myself a Great Siege Ballista and took it out there with some iron projectiles, but could not place it ("You can't build here"). So I used one of the existing Great Siege Ballistas there, loaded it with ammo, and fired away. I hit it 20 times, my wife hit it 20 times, no joy.

How are we supposed to get that dome down? Given all the Cannon Shells found in the lootable chests nearby, I'm thinking perhaps I need to build a ship, install cannons on it, and fire those shells at it? Is that the key?

Any insights or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

Need guidance on how to set up power mines + transport

Private dedicated server in Survival mode. I have two power mines placed over iron veins, Power Mine 1 (PM1) and Power Mine 2 (PM2). Each requires 200 power. I have one windmill generating 480 power and a ropeway connecting all three. The Windmill is spinning, as are both Power Mines.

I would like the coal ore to be extracted from both, with all of the ore in PM1 transferred to PM2, where I have a portal that I can travel to and pick it all up. I've not been able to get this to work.

What confuses me is that each Power Mine has 3 boxes: a receive box, a send box, and what appears to be a general inventory (input?) box. The mines appear to be operating and ores show up in the inventory box of each mine. But they also show up in the Send box of each. I'm not sure how that happened, but probably as a result of all the fooling around I've been doing to get this to work.

All of the videos I've watched do a very poor job of describing the process, assuming all sorts of understanding and knowledge that's in the content creator's head but isn't making it into the video.

I haven't been able to figure out the transport items interface. When I hit the dropdown on PM1 to choose the destination (PM2), the name "PM2" does not appear, the system doesn't appear to know that it's online.

Can someone please describe, point by point, the minimum steps I need to take to get all the ore extracted from PM1 over to PM2? Do I need a tribesman to do this? Is this something that can be automated?

Thank you. All insights or suggestions are much appreciated!
