How do you find the material cost of your pieces?

Hi! So I’m looking to sell some pieces I made with cool tools ez960 and I’m having a hard time figuring out the material cost. Ez960 is sold by wet weight in grams. I didn’t want to move my piece while it was wet for fear of messing it up, and by the time it’s dry it loses a lot of its water weight. After firing it’s lost water and binder weight, so I’m stuck wondering how much clay I actually used 😅

Is there some sort of trick I’m overlooking here?

Embedding bronze into silver???

Hi guys! I’m wanting to create a mixed metal ring / pendant in which I embed bronze elements into silver (see photo as an example). Does anyone have any advice as to how you would fire such a project? I was thinking I’d fire the bronze elements first, then embed them into the wet silver clay. But I’m not sure after that how I would fire the silver clay… would it need to be in carbon? I’ll be using Aussie metal clay gold bronze and cool tools ez960 if that helps.

I appreciate any guidance in advance!! :)

Hi all! I am a small jewelry business owner and was recently reached out to by a store wanting to carry our products. They claim it's possible for me to make over 10k a month at their location (I typically make around 3-5k a month online). I've only ever done traditional wholesale, and I'm just concerned because I don't know if this is a good deal or not. Below is the offer they sent me after a zoom call:

"Here are some of the key takeaways:

We provide and pay for the employees in the store

You are in charge of pricing for your products & we take 6.5% of sales

Your products will be placed in our Westfield UTC, San Diego location

It is a 6 month total commitment (3 months due upfront)

Here are our different pricing options: ~2 sq feet: $70/week ~5 sq feet: $160/week ~10 sq feet: $280/week ~15 sq feet: $420/week

As mentioned on the call, the remaining space will be filled shortly so we are on a first come, first served basis. Please let us know how much square footage you would like to reserve so we can plan accordingly and send over the appropriate agreement. Feel free to reach out with any questions!"

Thoughts? I'm nervous about locking into such a long commitment, but I could definitely use more monthly income...
