Wild rat update’

So you may remember my post about the agouti Norway we caught in a humane trap? Well we’re keeping him as no one ever replied to our ads in our local area! Just wanted to share we named him Bubby (mr bubs for short) and I wanted to share a video of just how affectionate he is and how much he loves pets! Since he was so loved on my last post we’re going to keep updating his progress with videos ! So enjoy 😊

Found wild rat!

So my neighbor caught a wild rat in a humane trap on his property and we have an arrangement that any live rodents he catches he brings to me so I can release them a few miles away at the dump! Well yesterday he brought me this little guy! Now the thing is I live in the Mojave desert and we have wild roof rats that are native but I believe this guy is a Norway even though he looks like a roof rats by his coat. For one he is very tame, he came right to me from the trap and I’ve let him roam free in my bedroom (rat proofed) and he hasn’t tried to escape once, on the contrary he spends all his free time either sleeping on me or my wife or making us give him scritches lol! I’ve posted this on the roof rats for sub and the answers have been split though the consensus is he is an escaped Norway rat! All I know is he’s the most affectionate rat I’ve ever seen! My wife took him to the vet and got some mite medications for his ears and some antibiotics and the vet thinks he’s Norway but said he’s never seen an agouti Norway and that roof rats are much more aggressive! What do y’all think? Btw we got him a critter nation cage and we are keeping him! I’m gonna post a few more pics if that helps. TIA!

Update: on the roof rat / Norway!

So I took little dude to the vet down the hill and the vet said he’s stumped he said he looks like a hybrid between the 2 species of rats but if he had to choose one he would say Norway! He also prescribed some mite medicine and some general antibiotics since I’m going to keep him! Also he has opened up big time! He’s the first rat I’ve ever had that was a cuddler he comes up to me when I’m laying down and puts himself between my hand and doesn’t give me an option but to give him pets! He then proceeds to fall asleep! This is a pic of him sleeping after pets! My whole family fell in love with him! He has a big critter nation cage but he only sleeps in it! The rest of the day he hangs out with me and my wife in our bedroom( we rat proofed the room) I found these wire covers on Amazon that rats can’t chew through I’ll post a pic of it too cause I didn’t even know it existed!
Edit: it wouldn’t let me post a photo in the title so I added a few in the comments

Question for the experts:

So my neighbor caught a wild rat in a humane trap and brought him to me because he knows I’ve rehabbed wild animals! The thing is we only have wild roof rats here in the desert, and this little guy looks like a roof rat. but also like he may have been a pet Norway that got out! Can you guys tell me what you think? Also he is super tame which is why I’m thinking Norway, the wild roofies around here tend to be aggressive when caught unless their babies! TIA.
