This was Mike Love in 2023
Seen Mike many times since 2011. This was the last time. It was the Summer, 98 degrees and the man stood the entire show, danced as best as he could and joked between every song. College aged girls were passing him love notes and throwing bras on stage and he was having the time of his life, looking quite rotund, roo.
What I saw last night was even more depressing than watching Brian Wilson rolled in on a wheelchair in 2018 and sit at a piano and stare up at the lights on the ceiling for 85% of the show. Mike should be at home receiving around the clock care, not being propped up like a corpse at a musical wake at Stamos Funeral Home.
For all those that despise Mike and he has not been hard to hate, please give him one last pass. No one deserves this and despite him being an egomaniac, he has always carried the Beach Boys torch proudly, in his own way. He was never going to be Brian Wilson, but I'd gladly listen to Summer in Paradise on repeat if it meant we never got to see what we saw last night.
God bless all the Beach Boys, living, deceased, and on the footsteps waiting and with a stubbord death wish to die in front of his fans while the last thing he hears is Fun, Fun, Fun as he meets Carl, Dennis, and Brian.
