Did anyone else mix the two album versions together?

After listening to both versions of the album (with vocals and instrumental), here's the playlist I put together on iTunes.

01 ÉPiPHANiE
02 Had Enough (Instrumental)
03 EXiT
04 SiLHOUETTE
05 GROWiNG OLDER (Instrumental)
06 SOME THiNGS NEVER CHANGE (Instrumental)
07 RAiN
08 SMALL EYES (Instrumental)
09 LOVELY MASQUERADE (BOTH)
10 PUZZLE PiECES (Instrumental)
11 PHANTOM THREAD (Instrumental)
12 OUT OF SYNC (BOTH)
13 CONCERTiNO
14 CLiMBiNG HiGH (BOTH)
15 ÉPiLOGUE

The listening experience feels completely different this way, and I personally enjoy it much more.

Not gonna lie, at this point I've bought:

  • The CD version
  • The instrumental version on iTunes
  • The original version on iTunes

And soon, the vinyl.

For me, this is a really good project. I can really feel the work that went into it and the atmosphere of the album.

My only regret is the artistic choice regarding the mixing/mastering.

I hope they do a European tour someday. Don't forget Switzerland and come to Montreux Jazz Festival!!! 🇨🇭😄

I tried a different mastering approach for "Lovely Masquerade" (A/B comparison)

Hello,

I've been listening to Who Asked? for the past few days, and overall I enjoyed the album.

Some of my favorite moments are:

  • Lovely Masquerade
  • Puzzle Pieces (around 2:37)
  • Out of Sync (around 0:40, it reminds me of some of Zuntata's work for Taito, especially the Darius series.)
  • Épiphanie / Concertino / Épilogue, which reminds me of the anime Made in Abyss.

One thing that surprised me, though, was the mix/mastering direction.

To my ears, it feels very dense, mid-focused and somewhat closed-in. Based on the album artwork and the videos, I expected something a bit more open and airy while still keeping that raw character.

That made me curious, so I tried an experiment.

I'm not a professional mixing/mastering engineer. It's just something I enjoy doing on my Mac.

I took Lovely Masquerade and made my own interpretation of the mastering. I'm not saying it's better it's simply closer to the sound I personally expected when I first heard about the album.

In the video:

A = Official version

B = My version

I'm curious to know which version you prefer and why.

Voyager Remix.

Hello,
I'm working on one of my favorite tracks by Daft Punk, Voyager.
I also made the video edit (still unfinished).
There's still some work to do, but it's nearly finished.
