Springer/Nature manuscript status mismatch: “Editor Assignment Pending” vs “In Peer Review” — which platform should I trust?

I submitted a manuscript to a Springer/Nature journal on June 5. On June 8, the submission system status changed to “Editor Assignment Pending” and has stayed there until now, June 23. However, in my Nature Portfolio account, the same manuscript appears as “In Peer Review.”

I also noticed some confusing public/editorial information. Before submission, the journal page listed one Editor-in-Chief, so I addressed my cover letter to him. Shortly after submission, the listed Editor-in-Chief appeared to change to another person. However, other public search results suggested that the newer listed person have already been Editor-in-Chief for years. This made me wonder whether some journal pages, public search results, or manuscript-status systems may not be synchronized or updated in real time.

Has anyone experienced this kind of mismatch between a Springer/Nature submission system and the Nature Portfolio account? Is it a bad sign?

Daytime RTA Red Line from CLE to Tower City + walk to downtown hotels: safe/practical for a female visitor?

Hi Cleveland locals,

For someone unfamiliar with Cleveland, how safe and practical is the Red Line from the airport to Tower City during the day on Sunday for a female passenger? Is it usually reasonably busy and well-lit? Are there any security guards or so in the station?

Also, is the walk from Tower City/Public Square toward the downtown hotels/convention center area generally walkable and safe during the day especially Sundays? Are there particular exits from Tower City or streets that visitors usually prefer?

I had a very bad experience as a female traveler in the marta public transit station in Atlanta last yeae; hopefully, the RTA redline transit turn out to be more safe.

I’d appreciate practical local advice for making my trip safe, smooth, and enjoyable. Thank you!

Edit: comments suggest I exist tower city center from the public square exist. I cannot identify it on Google maps/earth. Is it the exist on the Prospect ave? Or another one?

How safe is it to stay overnight landside at Chicago O’Hare after international baggage claim?

Hi everyone,

I am a solo female international traveler and I have an overnight connection at Chicago O’Hare. I would appreciate practical advice from people familiar with ORD.

I arrive at O’Hare from Frankfurt at around 8:00 p.m. on Lufthansa in Terminal 5. My next connection flight is a United flight to Cleveland at around 7:00 a.m. the next morning from Terminal 1.

Since Chicago is my first U.S. port of entry, I understand that I will need to clear immigration/CBP, claim my checked luggage, go through customs, and then either recheck my luggage for Cleveland or keep it until United can accept it.

My main concern is the time after customs/baggage claim and before TSA opens in the early morning, roughly 10:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. I know this area is landside/public, not the secure gate area.

How safe is it to stay overnight in the public landside areas of O’Hare after baggage claim? Are there any security or police walking by?

I am okay with uncomfortable seating. I mainly want to be somewhere well-lit, monitored, and close to airport staff/security/police. I am not planning to leave the airport.

Would you recommend waiting landside at the airport, or should I book the Hilton Chicago O’Hare as a safer fallback?

EDIT 1: I am on an academic trip funded by a scholarship, so I am trying to save as much money as I can. Thank you for any practical advice.

EDIT 2: Thanks everyone for your helpful advice. My school agreed to change my flight, so I won't be transitting at Chicago and won't stay for a long period at the other transit. I will also be with some peers and a ptofessor on the same flight which makes it much better. 🤸‍♀️🤸‍♀️
