My recent portrait shoot with my gf :)

My recent portrait shoot with my gf :)

Client/Subject: Casual editorial portrait with gf
Location: Plain studio wall with soft natural window light
Camera: Canon EOS R6 Mark III
Lens: RF 85mm f/2 Macro IS STM
Settings: 1/250 sec, f/2, ISO 200

Lighting Setuo:

Used a large north-facing window positioned camera left as the only light source. The model was angled roughly 45° toward the window, creating soft wraparound lighting with smooth shadow transitions across the face. Kept the background simple and slightly darker than the subject to maintain separation without needing additional lights or reflectors. No artificial lighting was used.

Post Processing:

Color graded in Lightroom with muted tones, lowered saturation, and subtle contrast adjustments for a modern editorial look. Balanced highlights and shadows to preserve natural skin texture while keeping depth in the hair. Used BeautyPlus for light skin cleanup, minor blemish removal, under-eye touch-ups, and subtle facial refinements without making the edit look artificial. Finished with slight sharpening on the eyes and reduced texture in the background for a cleaner final image.

This was an extremely simple setup. just a good window, clean background, and careful posing. Most of the session was spent making small adjustments to head angle, posture, and expression rather than changing camera settings or lighting. The softness comes almost entirely from the quality of the natural light.

Best apps for the iPhone 17 Pro (DROP YOUR FAVORITES)

Just upgraded to the iPhone 17 Pro recently bc I couldn't wait for the 18. (i had an 11Pro)

Snapseed. Still one of the best free photo editing apps. Powerful tools without feeling overwhelming, and perfect for quick edits on the go.

BeautyPlus. Great for quick selfies and casual edits. Easy touch-ups, lighting fixes, and filters that don't take much effort to get right.

Flighty. Probably the best travel app I've used. Real-time flight tracking, delay alerts, and way more useful information than most airline apps.

Carrot Weather. Accurate forecasts with a clean interface. Widgets look great on the iPhone, and the notifications are surprisingly helpful.

Arc Search. My favorite browser right now. Fast, clean, and the AI-powered search summaries save a ton of time when looking things up.

Wallet. Ended up using this way more than expected. Cards, tickets, boarding passes, and payments all in one place.

What are your go tos?

One of my last editorial shoots

Client/Subject: Minimal portrait session with model friend
Location: Natural light studio setup near north-facing window
Camera: Fujifilm GFX 50S II
Lens: GF 80mm f/1.7
Settings: 1/250 sec, f/2, ISO 200

Lighting Setup:
Used soft natural window light from camera left to create a clean, muted look with gentle shadow falloff across the face and shoulders. Kept the background plain and uncluttered to put full focus on expression, posture, and skin tones. No artificial lighting used.

Concept/Intent:
Wanted a quiet editorial feel with soft styling and minimal distractions. Focused on relaxed posing and subtle expression to create something that feels effortless but still polished and fashion-oriented.

Post Process:
Color graded in Lightroom with cooler neutral tones and lowered saturation for a soft editorial look.
Balanced highlights and shadows to keep skin texture natural while maintaining contrast in the outfit.
Did light skin cleanup, under-eye touch ups, and face touch ups in BeautyPlus
Added very slight sharpening around the eyes and softened background tones for a cleaner composition.

Notes:
Spent most of the session adjusting body angles and posture rather than changing the lighting. The simplicity of the setup made small expression changes stand out a lot more in the final images.
