Trying to research Vietnam veteran James Edward Chase Jr. — MACV-SOG / 1-503 Mike Force XO
Looking for any information or research direction regarding Vietnam veteran James Edward Chase Jr.
I recently acquired several Vietnam-era Special Forces items directly from his son, including field-worn tiger stripe clothing, a Vietnam-used parachute, and a mock chute/training harness reportedly used to train Montagnard troops.
According to his family, James Edward Chase Jr. served from roughly 1963–1972 with MACV-SOG and as XO of a 1/503 Mike Force unit. His son stated he worked with Montagnard strikers and was involved in Special Forces operations in Vietnam.
I’ve spent hours researching but haven’t been able to find much documentation yet, so I wanted to ask if anyone here recognizes the name, has unit information, old rosters/photos, or could point me toward archives/resources that may help verify and preserve his story.
I’m approaching this from a historical preservation standpoint and would genuinely appreciate any help or direction. Thank you.
