Idk if this crow likes me or hates me but he's spending hours of his day cawing at me
13 days ago, my friend and I got a crow caller bc we love crows and I never see them in my area. (I have a small backyard and live behind a Target so I don't see much wildlife.) So we go outside in the morning and I used the caller, "caw caw caw" and we heard "caw caw caw" from way across the shopping center parking lot. We laughed at the timing but assumed it was just a coincidence and not that a crow was responding. I did the caller again, maybe 5 times in 3 short bursts, and a crow started circling about 30 ft overhead. He would "caw" and I would "caw" back. Then 2 more crows came and we cawed back and forth. Then 4 more. Then 4 more. Within one minute, 23 crows were circling above us cawing at us every time we cawed at them. It was amazing! It lasted a few minutes then they all dispersed and we were on cloud nine that the caller worked! I wanted to make crow friends and feed them!
I didn't use the caller again and no crows came by for a few days. Then, 4 days after the 23 circling crows, a single crow flew over to the tree in my backyard when I went out to vape in the morning and started cawing at me, non-stop, in 5-12 bursts. He wasn't aggressive but he's LOUD as he's only about 15 ft above me. I work from home and step outside to vape 8-10 times throughout the day/night and every time, he flies over (from seemingly out of nowhere), perches above me and caws CONSTANTLY. When I go back inside, he flies off.
It doesn't matter what time of day it is. It's been as early as 430am and as late as 845pm. I talk to him and he hops to another branch once in awhile and sometimes pecks at the branch he's on, but otherwise it is this (in the video) non-stop for 5 min at a time, 8 to 10 times a day. I have 40+ videos of him doing this every time I go out. I'm not kidding when I say he never stops until I'm inside and he always comes when I'm out there. *This video was taken from inside my house when he saw me heading to the sliding door to go out there*
I've tried leaving unsalted peanuts for him (while he watches me) but he never takes them - eventually I see a squirrel swoop in and grab them (when I'm back inside).
Idk what he's telling me but it's LOUD and CONSTANT. I just wanted to feed a crow friend and I think he hates me?? 😭 What do I do??
- If he thinks I'm a threat, why bother coming over here at all? No crows ever came to my yard before calling them.
- No other crows ever show up so I don't think he's calling them?
- He doesn't swoop down or dive bomb, just caws and hops around from branch to branch once in awhile.
- There's no nest he's protecting
- This isn't normally a territory of his/theirs that I'm infringing upon
- I haven't ever used the crow caller except that one time
My neighbor yelled out his window once telling the crow to shut up bc he's so loud and it's non-stop.
Is there any chance he likes me? Or have I made a crow enemy? I'm so sad and stressed 😞 I love birds.
