Automated Survey Figure labeling in Civil 3D

I've been using Autodesk Civil 3-D to generate site surveys since about 2016, previously was a 2004civil3d user. I use a survey database.

I've created a civil3d file template with a point description database and figure prefix database, and it has automated my point styles and it auto-drafts nicely. I get slowed down by other steps of the process though and some need tips- I'm assuming "learn Queries" is going to be a main answer.

Is there a way to also automate which types of survey figures (curblines, crowns) go into the breaklines for a surface or do I have to manually select them each time? Is this what Queries is all about? The template includes point group for the surface points, so sometimes I have to tweak the definition parameters of that group, but no big deal- that point group is part of the definition of an existing surface and so I just update them.

Is there a way to automate line or curve labeling for survey figures? If I have to update the point datum, I lose the labels I've added to the survey figures (building line dimensions, gate labels etc),- because they don't update, they have to be recreated. It's tedious. I'd love to be able to "update" the survey figures the same way you can update points, preserving segment and curve labels. Or should I be exploding labels as soon as I create them to avoid losing them?
