Just a little experimentation to see if my hypothesis is correct. One thing I noticed as to why the new cutscenes look so inauthentic to traditional ukiyo-e style is because the head shapes are too realistically proportioned. So I elongated and reshaped the heads of the daimyo and Shogun to try and make it look closer to the one from the old cutscene. I don't think it quite worked out as well as I hoped, but I can already see the difference.

I attached the original cutscenes for both the new and old styles for comparison.

I went to check on Shogun 2's store page for SEGA's ongoing Steam sale when this came up for some reason. Apparently, it's been unlisted from the Steam page at SEGA's request. Not sure if it's just a Steam page error on my part or actually happening. Would be real grim if it's true.
