Should I get an expensive MacBook Air M5, or a cost free HP Chromebook?
The school I am going to start at is giving out information to all new students about laptops for work, and you have two options, either a cost free HP Chromebook laptop that you can get for free from the school and get to keep it when you graduate, or pay 200 dollars to the school every year (for three years) and get a MacBook Air M5 13” with 16GB, and pay 50 dollars after you graduate to keep it. So it would cost about 650 dollars together for a MacBook.
I have no idea what to choose, I want a laptop that is quiet and good for school obviously, but I haven’t had good experiences with these cheap chromebooks, I just had one for three years and it really started to give up at the end of my school year, i once dropped it, then from then on the screen would turn black sometimes and then I basically had to kind of hit it gently to the desk to make the screen come back again it used to make weird sounds by the charging port and the whole thing really annoyed me, but this was also cost free.
On the other hand, I’ve never had a MacBook, and I don’t know how good they are for school, if I would pay the price, I would also pay to keep it after graduation, and use it for even higher education (like uni or other classes) but then I would need it to be reliable expect it to work for multiple years. We also don’t have a laptop at home, only a PC, and it might be nice to have a reliable laptop that’s always there for work and studies.
Any suggestions would be appreciated, I’m curious on how long these MacBooks last and how reliable they are, or if I should choose the Chromebook instead.🤝
