What’s a good reliable car that is affordable to maintain?

Need something with a good safety rating, ideally no more than $10k and super reliable (not sure if I’m asking for too much here). I can go up to $20k for the right car if the benefits outweigh the cost.

Don’t want anything with lots of bells and whistles that may need more maintenance. Need something with cheap parts and very low maintenance costs overall.

TIA

Should I sell my car?

Me and my wife work from home. I have a SUV that I purchased brand new about 8 years ago. Finding that I’m only driving it about once or twice a week. It’s currently worth $18k. Insurance is about $830 a year for comprehensive. Maintenance is costing me about $500 to $1000 per year (some years more). It’s nice to have it but feels like I’m paying for something I hardly use. Anyone else in a similar situation? Only reason we’ve kept it is because this one has a better safety rating so we use it for certain long distance travel but with petrol prices and general increase in everything we’re not travelling as much as we used to.

120km Car Service - is it necessary or is just a regular service fine? Any recommendations in Auckland.

Got a Hyundai that’s due for a service for a high km milestone. Wondering if these high km milestone services are necessary if you’re not really bothered about the warranty or resale? Also what’s a reasonable cost for this type of service? Appreciate any recommendations for mechanics in Auckland. Thanks.

Edit: It’s a petrol Hyundai Tucson.
