I’ve been looking through inaturalist for the genus „Asellus“ which are freshwater isopods and I found a picture from the user @verena_waldwildnis of a freshwater isopod that looks completely different to the normal Asellus aquaticus we get around here. It’s the only picture of this isopod or even similar looking ones I could find online.

It looks very dark and also very spikey. I’ve not seen one like it before!

Does anyone know more about this isopod or maybe has seen them before? Could be a new species!
