First time own hockey skates - tips for improving?

After about 4 months of doing LTS in rentals (which were figure skates), I went and got myself an entry level pair of Bauer hockey skates, just before startinf Level 5. Got them fitted and sharpened in a reputable shop and generally, the fit and the sharpening seem fine. My feet don't hurt after an hour of skating, edges seem to work, I can stop no problem.

BUT! I just feel like I'm a lot less confident on these than I was on the rentals. It's not any specific skills, it's just overall, every single thing seems to be harder than before.

I'd done maybe 6 sessions in them now and not seeing much progress. Any suggestions of what drills to do in order to get my feet used to the way hockeys work?

Also.. any tips on getting the lacing tight enough?? My hands struggle with that a bit..

Any and all advice would be appreciated!

Coventry Blaze games recommendations?

Hi everyone, me and a friend got into hockey earlier this year and would love to attend our first live game this coming season. Coventry is the closest EIHL team to us and we're thinking of one of the pre season games. I can see there are fairly affordable tickets on sale for a game against Guildford, and a week later one against Cardiff.

From those of you who know the league, which game do you reckon would be more fun as our first ever live EIHL game? Also which sectors would you recommend for us to buy the tickets for?

Any other tips about the venue, general vibe, merch to buy, anything else you can think a pair of newbies would appreciate, please share :)

Gallery of best moments of the playoffs?

This was my first playoffs and I enjoyed the ride. There were so many great moments! I'd love to see a gallery of some of the most iconic photos from Habs playoff games (like Dach's double head lock, Hutson shot through crazy traffic etc). Has anyone seen any fans do that? If so can you share a link?

Or if not just post your favourite photo on this thread :)

EDIT: thanks for sharing these gems all. I love that it's 80% Doby (unsurprising). Have a good summer!

Hi folks. I've been going to weekly LTS skills in the UK for a couple of months. Am in a mixed level 2/3 group, and practice in between classes a couple of times a week. I can tell I'm developing my skills slowly but consistently, building confidence and having a good time overall.

The thing is, I'm not that interested in figure skating skills. I'm much more into hockey and would love to develop hockey skating skills even if I never play the sport (I'm afab in my later 30s so there's no amateur group I could be part of).

My question is, are the skills we learn in those lessons transferable to hockey skates? I've yet to buy my first pair of skates (been using rentals), do I need to buy figure skates for those classes or could o turn up in hockey skates and get something out of them still?

Any advice would be super appreciated!

EDIT: Thank you all so much, this is all so useful and very encouraging! Much appreciated and I hope all sorts of good karma comes your way ⛸️🤍
