6 years in Linz, lonely, free apartment keeping me from moving to Vienna. Any advices?

I’m 27, been living in Linz for 6 years. My apartment here is essentially free. But I’m losing my mind from loneliness and I am not able to go back to my home country due to legal issues. After 6 years it feels like this city is not social at all.

I work remotely so I can work from anywhere — there’s nothing tying me to Linz except the free apartment.

Vienna is more international, more going on, more my vibe. But giving up a free apartment to pay €450-650 for a WG room is not the best.

On the other hand, 6 years of being miserable also feels not good.

Anyone been in a similar situation? Is it worth taking the financial hit for a better social life? any advices?
