Working economies

While our government works overtime to take money out of my pocket.. others are fighting for the most “random rights”.. but I am not complaining

Anyway .. feeling charitable and willing to send this amount to someone who needs it. I know it’s not a lot, but it’s up for grabs.. also don’t try scam me.. , it’s too little to want to steal. I would rather let the money get lost

Just read rules and I don’t think this qualifies as a begging or fundraising post? I hope not .. LOL

Keto Wins- 10kg loss goal in 3 months

43F, started Keto about 4 months ago when I realized that despite gym work, I wasn't losing weight or feeling great about my body. I met a friend who had lost a bunch of weight, and when I asked her, she told me about keto. TBH, I had heard about keto, but I was generally weary about fads and diets, so I had never tried any diet-related effort. At one point, my friend and I discussed GLP's, but I didn't want to try it until all else had failed.

So I went on the offensive, started reading, collected tips and information, and decided to be serious about it. I was aiming for a 10kg loss to meet my "Win" goal weight. I am happy to announce that I am about 1.5kg away from that weight goal, and I am feeling all kinds of mixed feelings because I wasn't sure it would work.

I have been receiving compliments all round; my clothes fit better, I feel sexier, but best of all is the discipline I acquired. I have had a tough year, and this life win means so much to me.

I must admit that I feel off a few times (knowingly and unknowingly), but now my body is fully keto-adapted, so if I fall off, I get back up real quick, without struggling with keto flu and crazy hunger pangs. I had also decided to give up alcohol for the period; needless to say was also one of the things I "failed at", BUT here I am. I am winning!!

I just want to encourage anyone considering this to let you know that it works, as long as you get foundational elements such as carb and calorie deficits, depending on your goal. I used this calculator to guide mine. https://keto-calculator.ankerl.com/

Brace yourselves for a likely KRA “manhunt”

Remittances are currently Kenya’s highest contributor to FDI type income to the local economy. So next thing you’ll hear that KRA will start tracing if you are receiving any money from friends and relatives abroad and look to tax it.

We simply can’t catch a break.

US visa

So just had an observational social experience today at the US embassy. There were about 50 or so applicants in the morning slot, and were applying majorly for B1/B2 and a
Study visas. If my mental calculation is not wrong the rejection rate was 80% +, and it was clear from the interviewing officer that the decision had already been made before the interviewees showed up. Just thought to share a few notes.

  1. If you really want to study, unless you have a full scholarship, your organization is paying the study costs, or you can truly afford the fees, I suggest you look for alternative universities globally. The US is tough for students, even Americans are barely affording university fees, what about you coming from a “third world country”

  2. If you make it to the interview, please please please be honest. If you don’t have history of high earnings, and suddenly in less than a year, you have a random 5M check into your account, it will be obvious that those funds are not yours unless you can prove that you were saving them, or had invested them elsewhere. So if they ask, just say, I got a loan from friends and family to sponsor my schooling, though this is also tricky. Point is; DO NOT LIE

  3. Make sure you don’t have “clean” passport. Meaning don’t apply for a passport and your first destination is the US. They will decline that visa faster than you can imagine
    .

  4. If you get a chance, no matter how small, travel as much as you can. Your travel history is what provides the backing that you will always come back.

  5. It’s better to apply for a tourist visa, use it, and come back before you attempt long term stays like studying. Living and studying abroad is hard, at least check out your “dream destination”, then see if it’s really feasible and sensible to survive there.

Finally, if you are rejected, figure out why and work on it before you try again. The US is a great place to see and visit, but not easy to survive if you are not prepared. You don’t want to go and struggle with the current economic hardships happening globally. It’s hard enough in Kenya and it’s home, it’s only harder out there.

I hope this post helps someone before they burn cash in a visa application that will be denied

Public Uni - Life's short circuit

USIU has been holding an annual career fair, inviting blue-chip companies to pitch and encourage students about their futures. Meanwhile, attempts to reach public universities have been unsuccessful. No public university wants to allocate funds and time to hold such fairs, meaning that again, "priviledge wins".

If you have a chance to access USIU this week, head there; the fair is still going on. Get a glimpse of a possible successful future (if employment is your thing).

Apple TV on Sony 2021 version

I can’t seem to find Apple TV on play store even though it shows online that the app should be available from 2020 versions of the Sony TV. I have done some basic trouble shooting an advised by chat gpt but not managed to get the app. I have an iPhone and an iPad but the cast option also not available. I’m stuck

Anyone know how I can resolve this without getting an external device?

Kenyan roads, will we ever change?

So I did a solo road trip down south for a round trip to Swaziland from Joburg and I literally felt like I was driving on another planet. I swear a learner still on driving a hill would have head a seamless drive if they tried it.

One thing I noticed that I was the “only one”, defensively driving and anticipating danger, and everyone was just going about their business, barely putting on their brakes.

I don’t know why we drive like mad men here, especially out of town, and I am embarrassed to be part of the populous that drives like that.

What country did you drive in that made you realise Kenyan roads are the GHETTO !

Exciting Keto drink options

I have been doing keto last 3 weeks and I feel fantastic in every sense, but I find my self struggling to have liquids. I have permanently switched to sparkling water to excite my mouth, but I need other options before I jar my taste buds forever … and fall off this wonderful journey by drinking something sweet.

For context, I live in a country where keto options are either too expensive or completely unavailable, so store bought options are not there. I would prefer a home made recipe with easily available ingredients.

I saw a post from a guy saying the way he found himself in a flooded ditch after last night's rain; I felt bad, and just had a flood of nostalgia. Being in town, having to take public transport, fighting for your life to get into one, and getting home after hours on the road. I remember this one time that I had to head somewhere in torrential rain, and knowing that this was my life, and I should just normalise it.

Now, I have been cringing every time I hear a few raindrops as it escalates into a full-blown flooding fiasco, and dreading what it would be like to go to work/anywhere in this weather via public transport. Needless to say, it turned out that as you get older, life does get better

  1. A better job 2. More money 3. More exposure and opportunities 4. Changed fortunes

You realise that life will move in a positive trend, and your life will not necessarily be stuck to what you know now. One thing to note, it's not just hard work, but a mix of luck, and the universe (and if you are religious, God) creating the path. So don't despair

If this has been your experience, please share and encourage the others who might/might not hope to get to this space.
