New archer needing arrow weight advice.

Good afternoon everyone!

My friends and I got the wild hair to possibly go on an elk hunt next year. They’re all bow hunters here in TN while I’m the odd one out that hasn’t ever owned a bow. I found a sweet deal on a Bowtech Realm X 60lb DW. My DL is 29”. The guy I took the bow too to get new strings put on and fit it to me was telling me I’m gonna be probably on the low side of arrow weight if I’m gonna go for elk, but with plenty of practice before then, I should be fine.

Disclaimer: avid rifle hunter, I know I need to hammer down practice, then take deer this year with the bow to get more in field practice. I’m debating entering a couple tournaments that the pro shop owner puts on for his teams and fundraisers just to practice more.

I’m shooting CX Maxima Badlands 350’s. I currently have a 100gr field tip but going to go to 125gr. I’m currently at 386.4gr with the 100gr field tip going 271fps per my garmin zero. So I’ll be 411gr-ish with a 125gr broad/field tip. I have Easton match grade field tips coming in to get tuned as close as possible before doing final tune and sight tape with broadheads.

So, down to the overall question. Should I get a 50gr insert and run 100gr broadheads to get me to 436gr-ish? Or just run 411grs with a 125gr broadhead? I’m probably gonna get a lot of “placement is everything, practice everyday”, which is awesome advice I agree with and plan on doing. However, I’d like as much forgiveness as possible if it’s present.

PS, wanting to use whatever setup I end up with for both deer and eventually elk, so I’m not really trying to change up a bunch of possible, but if necessary, I will.

TIA!
